The Soviet Union received ~6,000 M50 Reisings from the Lend Lease program during WW2 by the United States.
IN-GAME:
This would be identical to the M50 Reising in the Allies tech tree, with a 20 round magazine capacity (though it has the 12 round magazine modeled). It would provide some variety for USSR SMGs at BR 1, and while it’s copypasta, means it would be very easy for the developers to implement.
My intention is to use service weapons to increase TT variety for BR 1 SMGs for the USSR tree, especially since the PPD-34 is arguably unsuitable for BR 1. Which SMGs would you suggest be added to the TT instead to fulfill this goal?
The slower firing box-fed PPDs are really cool! Generally speaking, the developers try to use the most historically contextual options for the tech tree specifically. As far as I’m aware, the PPD-31 to PPD-37 (aside from the PPD-34) were all prototypes though?
I personally don’t mind prototypes in tech trees if the weapons are historically accurate and fill a role well, but some people create friction to prototype suggestions for the tech tree, even when it’s the most appropriate choice.
It’s embarrassing to admit it, but I don’t know to be honest.
Personally I actually attempted to fill the gap with submachine guns of other countries that could be added as subfactions to the faction.
We might as well just do away with the concept of factions altogether. Create a unified tech tree and just change the soldiers’ skins based on which team the RNG assigns you to.
Because this doesn’t lead to anything else. It undermines the integrity of the factions in terms of gameplay. And it doesn’t really add anything new to the game. If you want to play with this weapon, you’ve been able to for a long time.
My only source on them has been the articles on Kalashnikov.ru, where they are typically tested against other SMGs of the same period, then often getting rejected for one reason or another.
And it’s okay to not know something. I try to feign ignorance whenever possible (such as not being 100% certain on the PPK-41 chronology in my post on it, for example), and am willing to change my opinion with evidence. The main issue always comes from people (in general) having strong opinions when they don’t know what they are talking about.
Do the Allies fight on the Eastern Front or Manchuria?
Do the Allies wear Soviet and Chinese volunteer uniforms, or speak those languages (Liu Rifle and Thompson 7.63 squads aside)?
Do the Allies use Soviet equipment, in addition to equipment offered in Lend-Lease?
Do the Allies use Soviet flasks, mines, melee weapons, and other accessory equipment?
Do the Allies have SN42 body armor?
Do the Soviets not already have other examples of lend-lease equipment in their tech tree (M1 Bazooka, P-40E1)?
There is so much more to factions than just the weapons they have available to them. I think this argument is more valid in something like War Thunder (where the most notable things differentiating factions is crew dialogue), but Enlisted offers so much more to provide context and atmosphere to make each faction feel appropriate.
Yes, for now. But adding completely unnecessary copy-paste content in the name of greater variety in BR1 SMGs (probably to please Seal Clubbers) only detracts from those things.
Of course, I have presented an exaggerated, unrealistic scenario that I hope will never come to pass.
It’s not completely unnecessary. Ultimately, I would like to replace the PPD-34 at BR 1 with something more appropriate, to reduce the seal clubbing potential of BR 1 Soviets. You can only uptier it if other options replace it.
I think the PPK-41 and M50 Reising are the best options contextually (one was limited production and domestic, the other was used in larger quantities but is imported), but I understand that both have issues (for the reasons you’ve stated before). If there was something unique, used in decent quantities, and wasn’t a variant of a founder’s weapon, I would use that instead.
Unnecessary. If needed, the PPD-34 can be nerfed in many ways.
You can increase dispersion, increase recoil, increase visual recoil, or increase reload time.
Balance isn’t just about ROF and damage (Do you not remember how many people were crying over the planned nerf to SF rifles?)
At least there would be a bigger difference between the factions. I’m not a fan of 1:1 counterparts. And that’s why I started playing Enlisted back then.
Of course, there are certainly people who just love having exactly the same experience, no matter which faction they play as. They simply want everything to be exactly the same. I guess it’s so they can convince themselves that slaughtering bots en masse is some kind of real competitive challenge.
But that’s definitely not me. And that’s why I said no to your suggestion.
Better make it an event squad instead.
If it’s an event weapon, it’ll pollute the loot pool when opening crates.
Making it a squad instead lets you get the Soviet M50 without messing up future crate pulls for good weapons.
I think for TT it would be good to use something like the PPD-30/PPD-31 the 31 having a late and early like the Japanese do with some SMGs. It keeps it good with some variety but also keeps it balanced and faction related. Copy paste is a tough one, everyone has their own opinions and everyone has good points. I look at it like if it can be added and would be a viable option to improve a pain point in weapons at a particular BR or something to help a underdog finally get onto a even playing field.
This is going with historical accuracy first with a quick lean into does it feel at place?
Feels like a perfect BR1 option, just give it more disparity then most of if not all of the SMGs they have so it can’t lazer beam as bad, and at least a 2.5 second reload and 0.1 less damage in exchange for the fire rate. It would be a relaxed option with the ability to perform well.
