Hello bajtársak and fellow forumdwellers,
The M1A1 Thompson on BR2 has been a very controversial change ever since it was moved from BR3 to BR2.
While some people were happy to see a very powerful American SMG getting added to BR2, many people pointed out that M1A1 Thompson is as powerful as any BR3 SMG and only serves to further powercreep BR2 which has become a serious issue lately.
I propose that
- M1A1 Thompson is moved back to BR3
- M1A1 Thompson gets the same reload animation as M1928A1 Thompson (buffing reload from 2.6s to 1.7s)
- a new M1A1 Thompson (20) is added to the tech tree on BR2.
About M1A1 Thompson reload
This both serves as a buff and a fix to the reload animation.
Unlike the M1928A1´s smooth and quick reload, the M1A1´s magazine is jammed into the magazine catch then the soldier hits the bottom of the magazine two times.
If you think through what should happen here: the soldier inserts the magazine, pulls the trigger and realises that the magazine is not correctly in the magazine catch so he attempts to fix it either by hitting the magazine or by adjusting it with hand, but what happens instead is that the soldier hits the magazine just for the fun of it and animation for it looks a little weird as well, too fast, too robotic.
About the M1A1 Thompson (20 rounds)
20 round Thompson magazines were actually quite common during world war 2, often preferred for their lower weight and shorter build which made them more comfortable when firing from prone.
The 20 round Thompson magazine is already in the game, the animation for it also already in the game so it would be quite easy to add.
There are plenty of 20 round Thompson submachine guns on BR2, such as the Thompson M1928 USMC, BSA Model 1929 Thompson and M1921 Thompson 20, so a 20 rounds M1A1 would fit in BR2 just fine without being overpowered for its BR.
I believe this is a pretty fair compromise that makes everyone happy.
Thank you for your time and attention!
