Lmg dispersion and common sense

Lets look at mg 34 and 42 effective firing ranges and max ranges:
200-2000 effective
4700 m max
Ok for games sake lets decrease them to 100- 300
To max 400
But what we see in the game ?
They are not even useful beyond 50 meter even at mounted state.
Remove the dispersion retardness.
MGs were fearfull weapons.
They basically carried german army in whole war. German squad doctrines based on mg being the main fire power of squad not even infantry.
Mg42 was so potent that the standart mg for most of the nato members today since 1968 is mg3, based on mg42 design.
And stop the " mgs are too op noo i want to cry mommy" gibberish.
We have more than enough campers and snipers who do nothing but marksmaning already.
If they are not stupid i think they can easily mow down mgs
Also, tanks are the best solution for fortified areas and mgs.
If you can focus for at least 30 second around the enviroment that surrounds you and the map you are playing, rather than driving your tank directly to the point, i think you may experience very decent games

A year ago, issue with MGs was that they were used as a variant of SMG, so they where “fixed” by making them useless in other roles. It was a brilliant “fix”. Anything making this game more cqb oriented is evidently where devs want to take it. Pretty much a COD with squads is an end goal I guess.

yeah, can agree
MGs are basically worse automatic rifles that slows you down

Typical DF approach. People used MGs like ARs? Well, lets give them stormtrooper accuracy so people cant hit a barn with them past 10m, basically turning them into trade-of SMGs.

It’s worse than that, even if you go prone and use or don’t use bipods (hard to tell if there is a difference sometimes) you can see that bullets just go in kind of radial spread. You hit someone on burst when muzzle climbs up and because of the spread one bullet goes lower and hits the target. Easily observed on Japanese mg with optics. I’m now using it just for single shots and even the spread is ridiculous. I get it, most of MGs had an open bolt but that doesn’t make them as accurate as pistols…

In this case we are lucky they dont give them rebel accuracy, i suggest to see again open sequence of ep4 and count of many storm trooper die

The only solution that I could think of is to fix the bipod mounting like either copy Red Orchestra 2’s or Rising Storm 2’s or Battlefield where those games have bipod mechanics that are much easier to mount to make LMGs much easier to use at longer ranges.

Regarding dispersion, atleast make it feel like an automatic rifle where in order to hit accurately in full auto especially at longer ranges, learn how to shoot bursts, instead of making them like SMGs to the point that people would just act like Rambo.

Right now, the MG nest is much more useful than the LMG especially when defending because of the bipod problems.

Totally agree, if lmgs worked when bipoded in addition to a reliable bipoding mechanic they’d be perfectly viable and imo pretty balanced, I personally felt the mmgs in BFV were really well balanced with a lotta killing power but certain ‘ifs’ you had to keep in mind like if you were bipoded and if the gun was overheating
