Flamethrower spam is extremely overused on BOTH sides, both offense and defense. Let’s face it, they kill about as many teammates as they do enemies. They can be extremely difficult to counter, especially when there is more than one squad a time.
I know this is going to likely be an unpopular suggestion, but I think it needs to be said:
Limit teams to one flamethrower squad out at a time.
Force them to focus more on directed use of it rather than just coating the entire field in fire. Bring back a lot more focus to actually using guns, precision, and strategy, not just area spam weapons.
Limit assaulter squads like how tanks and aircraft are limited

Limit machine-gunner squads like how tanks and aircraft are limited

Limit paratrooper squads like how tanks and aircraft are limited

Jokes aside, if you want to limit anything, you need to give free squad selection, not current one-by-one. And additional slots for f2p would also be nice
I’m not opposed to additional f2p slots. I’m all for it, though perhaps EARNING them is the better solution.
I’m really sick of f2p players that just have flamethrower squads equipped though. Pretty much everyone can agree, flamethrowers are without a doubt the strongest infantry squad in the game. Limiting them would help to avoid the spam.
They’re not the strongest at range, and when they their flamethrowers, the become a beacon for all bullets.
And somebody who has no idea what they are doing, can do as much damage to their own team as the enemy teams.
Flametroopers are more CQC oriented. Therefore they are better on urban maps, whereas on some maps, like pacific maps where the capture zones are big and open, they’re usefulness is nullified.
Please for the love of god, lets stop trying to just limit squads because people don’t know how to deal with them. As another poster said, flamethrowers are fantastic at CQB, it’s where they shine, so fighting on an objective inside a building, of course something like a flamethrower will dominate.
If you want to deal with a flamethrower either ambush the flametrooper, or use impact grenades, I find them to pretty much stop anything in their tracks.
All they have to do is stop nerfing friendly fire. Friendly fire should be like in CBT, you will end up charging your own artillery, spamming barrel grenade launchers or attacking with multiple teams of flamethrowers if the fire will consume yours as well as the enemies.
Lets try implementing your idea into the game without changing anything (no giving F2Ps extra squad slots, and dead squads must wait 3 cycles to be used again.):
If a F2P has a flametroopers squad in their lineup, as well as the required vehicle squad, and 2 more infantry squads and goes into battle, this would (most likely happen):
Off the bat, somebody has taken the flametroopers squad, reducing the F2P to 3 squads. Then 4 other people have taken the tank slots and the fighter and attacker slots, leaving the F2P with 2 useable squads. They must time their squad losses correctly, so the have the luck of jumping into a vehicle (if the slot for their specific vehicle type is open of course), hopefully the flametrooper squad has died letting the F2P use their flametrooper but blocking other F2Ps who have flametrooper squads equipped to not use theirs, or they must leave the game after loosing their 2 squads, because each dead squad must wait 3 rotations to respawn.
(This is a worst case scenario simulation, but you can see how much of a pain this would be. Gaijin/DF probably would not give F2Ps extra slots without paying for them because they are a business, and are about the money.)
they would also have to limit different weapons and gear in squads, but it’s pretty obvious with the new br system that is not the direction that this game is going in
I’m guessing in the new system people will just tell you to play at a lower br to avoid the flamethrower spam
These suggestions reminds me of school ranking. In order to make schools better, lets lower the difficulty of exams instead of teaching better. Keep practicing, after 2000+ battles, you will start to think differently and have more mental flexibility to adapt and overcome.
I disagree, part of the reason I love this game is because it is so unrestricted compared to others in its genre. In other games you’d always have players practically fighting over the heavy equipment like flamethrowers meaning that one guy could end up hogging something the whole match
