Lets have a discussion. What is your opinion of completely unhistorical weapons that never saw use in the battle?

With some campaings receiving more and more unhistorical weapons what will happen to campaing we love in the future?

The one i am scared about is Moscow. This campaing is the earliest in our game being set in late 1941- early 1942.

Experimental weapons, and non existant weapons (at the time of the battle) Completely break the immersion this game is known for

The 2 big offenders are MKB42 (H) and ZH29.

  1. MKB42 (H). Started experimental use in april 6 1942 on the Leningrad front. there were around 50 produced. Was never in Moscow yet it was added into the game. They could have made a sniper G41 version if they really wanted to. What i am really scared of that they will do is add MKB42 (H) non sniper version to assaulters later in the campaing. Dont do that, it will completely ruin the campaing and turn it into normandy where everyone runs around with 3 assaulter squads with STGs.
  2. ZH29 - not much is known about this weapon, barely any were produced in significant numbers.

Rather than adding non historical experimental weapons that completely break the immersion find something believable. For example i would be able to suspend my disbelief if the germans had a G41 scoped instead of MKB. It would be believable that future assaulter squads for germany could have a drum mag KP31. But im sorry not STGs in moscow. That is too far. Dont be lazy and actually implement historical things.

the zk-29 is a cezekoslovakian semi-automatic rifle, the cezekoslovakia was sold by france and England before the outbreak of the war, to Germany, so it’s not strange to find her (plus she was also nerfed they remove the automatic fire so now it’s a sidegrade of the g41)
mkb42h although it shouldn’t be there we have already understood that the developers don’t give a damn about the historically accurate, so if it remains usable only by snipers it does not give me problems (the assaulter class spam is in every camapagni)
in my opinion in moscow there are enough automatic weapons for the historical period so the developers should focus on the other classes, such as flamethrowers or mortars for example

i dont mind or care much now a days… i actually apreciate them and play with them as much as i can since most ww2 games dont even have them.
same for vehicles .

guns like the mp40/I , polish bar, label, m2 hyde, schmeisser mk36 III, and so on. i love everyone of them and want to play with them as much as possible. my fun first.

same for vehicles. i understand why the jumbo in normandy campaign. i dont mind it now a days.

thb, i really want more weapons like them. makes the ww2 more fresh after all this years of playing ww2 games with only a small percentage of the equipment avaiable , and always, with the same suspects…

ps: i strongly belive they should rename the campaigns on the front they are setting, so even more guns/gear whatever could be added without pissing the “i want historic realism” guys. west front, east front , north africa front etc…
would love to fight pershings inside a tiger 2 tank tho… not gonna lie…

Personally, I don’t mind it as much as I would race-swapping, gender-swapping, giving nations a rival’s weapons (unless it’s specified as captured or remade like the Lanchester), or a generic CoD like uniform system. I think it’s interesting to see and learn about experimental weapons, as long as they’re depicted in a realistic manner.

By committing to symmetric balance, Darkflow guaranteed that prototype weapons will make it to the game eventually.

It’s stupid and unnecessary but this is the path they chose to take.

Maybe they should turn Moscow into more of an Early Eastern Front campaign and Berlin into a Late Eastern Front campaign though. That would include more popular battles and would require us to go through less campaign trees.

They could do something similar for Western Front too having the Early Western Front be Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, and France. Late Western Front would be Normandy and every subsequent battle on the Western Front.

Yea thats what im thinking. Leave the late war stuff for Berlin and let Moscow have warly war like its supposed to.

I would argue that early war would be 1941-1943 and late war would be 1944-1945 for the Eastern Front. That would allow the MKB42 (H) to make sense.

I don’t mind at all. Moscow is STILL the most balanced campaign even with the stg. To compensate, it’s possible to bring 3 assaulters Soviets squads of 4 guys wielding ppsh41. As such I understand why the stg is here.

But.

To solve this anachronism, I’d do like many before me suggested: rename Moscow into Eastern Front or something. I also want to see Stalingrad A LOT, so it would make this more possible…

Maybe eastern front(41-early43)?

Why not? It would solve many anachronistic issues, allow us to keep our toys, and open up a larger opportunity of maps (such as Stalingrad ones)

Same with Normandy. Rename it to Western front. Bam! Jumbo is now welcome!

I think squads should be restricted to weapons they historically used

It’s a dream I also have, but I’d be glad driving either vehicles :grinning:

Here’s a real footage (for real this time) of a Pershing tank facing a Panther who just ate a regular Sherman prior:

Disclaimer: many probably already saw this footage, but in a rare moment of seriousness from me, I have to mention it contains real depictions of real men dying, and not in good ways. If this horror is too much for you, please refrain from watching.

On a less serious note: the Pershing flanked the Panther…

my god poor panther in flames :frowning: …

srsly what the hell was that position from the panther crew . having 2 roads with direct hits against them to cover wasnt a wise decision… …

My guess is that they were busy dealing with the front where the regular Sherman came from… It’s also known that by that time period, germans tankers were barely fresh out of tank training, that even was rushed due to desperate need of able bodies: they had no combat experience.

There’s probably things we don’t see from just this video. What I know is: That was brutal.

Are you ABSOLUTELY certain it’s a good idea?

quite frankly, i don’t like it even a bit.

fgs everywhere, m2s despite they never exists, t50s that were mainly used to leningrad, and didn’t even saw moscow, or prototype weapons being even better than mass produced weapons. and the list could go on.

but unfortunately, our " feelings " doesn’t care that much.

Well, without non-historical weapons, there is no way to fill all the levels. And balance it.
