I was playing as br3 Germany earlier this afternoon and ran into a duo who sat in the back with 2 kv2’s firing into the objectives. Barely won because of the game mode being assault. Went 280 and 16 while one of the guys went 192 and 0 with his friend going 94 and 0.
You would think that devs will either only move sturmpanzer to BR3 and leave KV-2 on BR4 or leave Sturmpanzer on BR2 and move KV-2 to BR3. But moving both at the same time is a classic incompetence move, thinking that the heavy tank with huge howitzer and the open top paper artillery SPG with also huge howitzer can somehow fit on the same BR.
I had to fought several KV-2 during the few last days. Imho it is worse thab the KV-1 as it is easier to destroy and the limited fire rate seems a serious drawback.
Nonetheless, Soviet BR3 has one of the most stacked and diverse lineup and I don’t think that having the KV2 down there was great…
But anyway my main issue is that destroying one soviet tank is kinda pointless as another one (or two) will take its place within seconds. (Though this does not only apply to soviets, their tanks arguably takes more effort to deal with)
Id say it didnt matter which tank he was in. No one was interested in punching his ticket
KV-1 was always unrealistically overpowered though, I dont know why Gaijin loves this tank so much, always making it undertiered.
Anyway, enough rant about my hate for that tank.
IMO the real issue is that the go to BR2 Axis tanks (Panzer IV E, F1) cant pen KV armour reliably so unless they have some BR3 players with long 75 then they are doomed. Although if there are long 75s then KVs are not a problem. Another issue that wouldnt exist if there were no up/downtiers.
agreed. KV1 is tank that is perfect on BR3 if there was ±0 MM. but with ±1 MM KV1 is too strong vs BR2 tanks, ok vs BR3 tanks and weak against BR4 tanks.
No, obvious solution is short-barrel tanks in BR3.
You took out the most important part of the context: reliably!
75mm armour vs 80mm pen with HEAT so yes it can pen at close range and if KV armour is not angled but thats unrealistic in most combat scenarios.
- you need 2-3 shots while perfectly angled, while KV1 only needs 1 shot on much wider angle.
- tanks use ammunition, so if KV1 has already shot ~5-10 shots, there wont be anything to hit there.
The biggest issue there is you are using HEAT, something the 4E or 4F1 dont have.
I am pretty sure both of them were given Heat (the one with 80mm pen) some times after the IIIN was sent to BR3.
But even then it is not super reliable and mostly to deal with same tier tanks I suppose.
Imo, the short 75 shouldn’t be good at dealing with orher tanks anyway, otherwise stuff like Long 50mm and Marders are not worth using. But then again all faction have an Equivalent to the short 75 at BR2 that is also good at killing tanks…
I just checked and the 4E and 4F1 has a shaped projectile.
to do this, I recommend using J1 - yes, you will have to put up with the weaker HE, but the Soviets also accepted that they need to use t34 57 to fight tiger 1H and panter when they have, from your words, a godlike kv1, besides, you can’t take two of them at once because both kv1 and t34 57 go to One squad
I agree, however as you said, sadly every other faction doesnt get that limitation. (Honestly I even enjoy killing tanks in the 4F1, its a challenge for me, especially shermans, which are borderline invincible except for a pixel by the cupola.
Also so they do, huh, cant beleive I missed that change. Dont know why they lazily made all the HE, HEAT… again. But thats good at least.
since when if you could pen it matter. Panzer III N was an easy kill, but got moved because of its “armor”
Dont say it was the HE cannon…that same cannon is still in BR 2 on 3-4 tanks
Yeah I missed that in the changelog at some point, last time I was using them, they didnt.
and I thought it was because of the insane rate of fire (4 seconds in stock)
that’s what I’m saying…there are still 4 tanks at BR 2 with that same gun, same HE. same reload…so it wasn’t the gun, or they all would have been moved.
there’s actually still a Panzer IIIN at BR 2, it just doesn’t have side skirts.
Edit: theres actually 5 tanks
The only explanation is, that players struggled to workout to shoot it in the turret cheeks…it didn’t matter that it “could” be penned. So I dont really see how you “can” pen a KV-1 matters when its much harder to achieve than knocking out a PzIII N was. (they are both noob stompers)
can you even play BR4 without getting uptiered to BR5? i cant remember last time i played soviet BR3 and ended up against panther or tiger.
Well, every time I take a kv1, I always fight against tigers and panthers.
