I was pretty crass in my previous comment, but I believe there is no good solution in the current 5-BR system that we have. The best solution is to not make a problem in the first place, right?
dont add it or only at BR 4 or higher where AT is a lot more potent
Just in case some ppl didn’t know this, the KV hull is immune to explosive due to its 35mm floor and top (The penetration of TNT and Explosive pack is 35mm exactly), which I emphasize that this is not the case with any other heavy tank, not Churchill, not even IS2 or KT. Added on top with its frontal reinforcement, I don’t think putting it on BR3 is a wise choice. In BR3 it could already be a nuance to deal with, when downtiered to BR2 it’s just gonna be a nightmare.
Throw this steel monster into Tier IV, because Tier III weapons cannot penetrate its frontal armor.
Now please imagine tier 2 players who sometimes fight tier 3…
Don’t even imagine, I’ve personally experienced the terror of the KV-1. Back then, I was still a newbie, hadn’t unlocked the engineer role, and was just carrying a pack of explosives. Its outer shell was even harder than a T-34; it couldn’t hurt that thing at all.
Whoa, there’s actually something even more broken than the KV-8 — the KV-6. Just look at this picture.
Same design logic as the OT-34: remove the hull machine gun and replace it with a flamethrower, with no real loss in firepower at all, and it’s still a mass-production vehicle.
You’ve gotta say both the Soviet and German flamethrower tech trees are absolutely insane.
You know it has added armour right? It uses kv-1e hull, not regular kv hull.
Do you still think it’s suitable for br3?
reasonable question.
the armor gives it br3,5 power (like the churchill) but the cannon gives it br2 power.
on br4 its hopelessly outclassed and on br3 it can be played as a fun option if the enemies dont panzerfaust you and you manage to avoid enemy tanks.
the panzerfausts on br3 are already destroying every tank and long 75mms also penetrate the 90 front armor with well aimed shots.
Wake up, BR3 is constantly playing against BR2. And there’s Japan in the game too.
Coaxial flamethrower is actually weakspot, it has only 48mm. Any BR2 tank can penetrate it and take out KV’s turret.
As always, you just need to know what to do. Which is not specifically hard when enlisted has penetration indicator.
Btw. You never want to shoot at a KV’s hull anyway. Not even at the hull of a standard KV-1. It’s always better to shoot at the turret’s cheeks. So it doesn’t really matter if it has extra armor on the hull.
Hitting the turret is also prone to failure if the turret does some last second moves or just the breach eats your entire round. With the hull you still can try to ignite the hull ammo rack. But ultimately both options arent ideal.
I want to remind you that TNT was buffed at some point. It can now penetrate 44mm, but the explosives and AT mines have not changed.
The premise is that you can survive to climb onto the roof of the vehicle and install TNT, but in most cases, you’ll be shot to death as soon as you climb onto the hull, let alone blow up the KV-1.
Yes. You can’t grey zone with this tank. You have to be up close in order to use the flamethrower thus exposing yourself to infantry a lot more. It’s BR 3 material because it has a more aggressive play style.
You can still greyzone, it has a fast firing 45
Which is less of an issue since the KV is notoriously hard to kill with most infantry AT.
This thing can NOT be BR3 is any scenario. It has the amazing armour with which BR 1-2 tanks will struggle to pen front on. Mix that with a capable main gun & Flame thrower will make it a pain for infantry trying to use TNT on the driver hatch since the tanker can just spray & pray with the flames. Either killing them outright or slowing them down enough to be killed via the main gun. On top of that it has a hull MG aswell. Now compare that to axis equipment which often removed the main gun to fit the Flamethrower. The only vehicle I can think of which doesn’t would be a B2 retorfit. But even then it was built into the Chassis rather than the turret like the KV-8

This thing is definitely not BR 4 material either….
With little HE filler and not utilising the flamethrower? Only an idiot would not use this tank for its intended purpose.
