Keep Normandy tests without linear/powerup progression

I think this mode should be exactly for you =p
I like it too. But there is kind a Bf 1941 style. Maybe sometimes it will be rebirth like dark souls series. Not now for sure

I think there would be many people able to enjoy this.

In WT any tank you can upgrade your crew members. This process took a long time but it grants a real bonus. Now in Enlisted is no matchmaking. Man it’s still CBT. I can’t imagine aaa-game like Enlisted does without matchmaking levels as it comes in obt. Its a non sence

War thunder’s crew system is often overlooked, but you can tell that people hate “powerup” progression by how much they hate having to unlock parts, FPE and NVD. As those make a vehicle strictly better. Gaijin won’t remove it though as it makes money for them, which hurts the growth of the game in the long term. Stuff like that is why War Thunder can not compete with WoT, but because it is the only game in its niche, there are no competitors to be afraid off/that can kill WT. People that love WT’s gameplay will always come back as there is nowhere else to go.

With Enlisted however, the only thing it offers is AI squads, compared to the dozens of other WW2 FPS titles. You can see this by how dead Lone Soldier is as a gamemode, as playing any other WW2 FPS game would be more enjoyable than it. For a lot of players, AI squadmates aren’t enough to make up for the absolutely awful progression system we currently have in place. That is why me and many others are enjoying the hell out of Normandy, as the worst thing about the game is not there, leaving all of the good stuff to enjoy.

Enlisted is Indie, not AAA. Sure, the graphics are great, but AAA refers to studio size, not graphics quality. If Darkflow was a AAA studio, they would not have to rely on Gaijin, another indie studio (but a large one at that) to get a game engine to use, and to publish their game. It also explains why updates are relatively small, and don’t come out as often. As there simply aren’t enough people working on this game to develop it quickly. They have to split their work between it and Cuisine Royale.

Matchmaking by campaign level would be bad, btw. Imagine premium squads against newbies.
Matchmaking by highest soldier rank wouldnt work either, as then you get new players with premium squads against maxed out players. I have thought a lot about how matchmaker could fix the current system, but I failed to find a good solution because of one simple base line:

There is literally no way to quantify how “good” a player’s gear is in Moscow’s progression system outside of straight up giving every item, perk and soldier a point value and adding those up.

But even then, that allows for min-maxing, taking smaller squads of upgraded soldiers and only the best gear to stomp people that are not capable of optimizing their point use.

We simply need a new system that can guarantee both balance and enjoyable progression.

I do kindof wish I had my Big Mac Mag™ that I payed for in the initial promo

Can’t stress that enough either.
The Dagor Engine is a gift from god coming from a non-AAA studio

I myself prefer developing in Unreal Engine, but never tried Dagor as you dont just have access to it unlike with UE4.
Unity is another option.

But both of those engines have their downsides, among them being that they are mainly english. Darkflow is Russian and Dagor is also Russian, so it does seem a logical choice.

I’m saying in regards to performance and visuals, Dagor shits on any implementation of Unreal that I’ve seen, despite coming from a minor studio.

That’s entirely up to what someone does with the engine.
Dagor’s visual have been improved and optimized for a single use case:
WW2 themed realistic visuals.

Sure, unreal engine will probably lose out in optimization as that has to be done by hand and most games released in the engine are not 5+ year projects. But it does not lose out on visual quality at all. There are many AAA level renders done in unreal engine. For example, The Mandalorean’s backgrounds were all made in unreal enngine, for example. Those don’t even lose out to real life. Those level of renders can be made even by Indie level stuff, but that would cost a lot of performance.

we have jeeps for 4 people so i guess there wont be any progression for the normandy cause then how will 7 people get in the car

Sherlock, its you!=D

@5762269 This game looks like AAA-game and thats what Im talking about.
Matchmaking system will be honest and good after prem squads will be upgardble as anyone else.

How would matchmaking work, in your vision?

Better you tell me, you are the developer, Catz

As said, unless you give a point value to every item and soldier in the game, which can easily abused, I see no viable way to implement matchmaking with the current progression system. There are too many variables to quantify progression and even such of a point system can easily be abused.

Saying “but it will work” and at the same time saying “you tell how it will work” after I already said it wouldn’t work doesn’t exactly help. I am asking how you would implement matchmaking, to see if I missed something.

At the speed that Cuisine (now CRSED: F.O.A.D.) is losing players I doubt they will support the game further. They need to focus on this project, as Cuisine was just released as a “joke”.

About the one in a Dozen WW2 games, I know by a fact that some people are waiting for this game to come out, especially on Steam. A example will be the (dying) H&G community (were I come from) and some portions of RO (Mostly for the gunplay, but the movement is a huge downgrade compared to RO)

It’s the progression that makes it fun :grinning:

There is no such a complicated goal, if premium squads will be upgradble like all others. You are right - the system will be built at company level. And as i suppose at the kill ratio of player.
And here`s my solution:
Yes, the prem soldiers will be five stars but it will be empty at the beggining. They will skilled up only after a 15-20 hours of gameplay. After that they will have the same amount of stats as simple 5 stars unit - not like 15 of health. @627636 told about in main prem topic.
All other trees of upgarde - more members, more xp for squad, for a soldier, stars for their weapons could be upgraded.
So, the premium squads will have to growing with company levels and all other squads.

Then after 20 hours paying players get to dominate people because they still have low campaign level. Does not work.
You can’t work both on level and kill ratio because that would split the playerbase in too many brackets, unless you want campaign level to be worth X ELO points and then using a ELO system. But even that will be mediocre at best.

Aka people that level up the best squads early will have a massive advantage against people that don’t. Again, doesn’t work.

Your matchmaking idea will not lead to actual balance and will split up the playerbase too much for gaijin to ever greenlight it because of queue times.

The premium squads not the jack of all trades. Without enginers, radio man, rifle-man it can give some firepower but not the spam points, not the mgs, not the artillery strikes. If it will be upgraded fully at 7-8 level of company - after that, it gives a player some advantage but others can fight them with better arms. PPD is better then PPK. MP38 is quite equal to MP40 in the most positions except rate of fire.
Also this Premium squad can be unlockble at some company level like 6 or 7.
And not to be completely off-topic I wanna say Normandy feels brilliant - urban warfare, assimetrical gameplay D-day. And even with it looks poor without gaining xp and upgrading your units.

They dont have to be jack of all trades. All they have to do is provide superior DPS.
At low campaign levels people dont get MGs, no AT rifles. They also dont have access to upgraded weapons, nor drum PPDs, nor the MP38. They also have less of the SMGs, 1 or 2 instead of 4.
It will still give access to vitality if it is leveled to 5 straight away, still making it OP until people get to compete with upgraded guns.

Making a premium squad unlockable is not possible as it is premium, aka bought.
If you mean unlock for purchase, that is something gaijin will never do, knowing war thunder premiums.
