Japan’s new weapon: officially known as the Type 5 Rifle （仮称五式步枪）

This rifle is a modified version of the Type 99 short rifle. It uses a 20-round or 30-round magazine for ammunition supply. It is a domestic combat rifle designed for local defense battles and was used by hastily formed neighborhood defense forces. The capacity of the magazine has been given importance, and it is informally called the Type 5 rifle.

The photo is too small to clearly see if the gun bolt is rotating. If it’s not rotating, then it could be either fully automatic or semi-automatic. The 38th and 99th model semi-automatic modifications of the Japanese army are structurally similar to Pedersen’s.
However, some people believe it was a bolt-action. Considering the nature of the “People’s Rifle”, untrained shooters using semi-automatic rifles would consume an astonishing amount of ammunition; and although the complete trigger mechanism is not visible, it can be seen that there is a circular trigger lug at the rear similar to that of the 38/99. It is speculated that it might be a modified version of the 99-type short rifle with a larger capacity.
If it is a bolt-action, then it is equivalent to a large single-shot rifle and it is suitable for BR2.
If it is semi-automatic, then as a semi-automatic rifle with a magazine capacity of 20/30 rounds, it would precisely meet the requirements of the BR4 in Japan.
If it is fully automatic, then it can become a new top-of-the-line rifle, suitable for BR5.
