The Chi-Ha was the most widely used tank by the Empire of Japan during WW2 with just over 1100+ examples being made, and was the main service tank of WW2, with the Ha-Go being roughly behind in second despite 2000 of those produced, but saw less service in general due to how obsolete it was. Making the Chi-Ha a very limited premium vehicle that only a few can use was a bad move, Japan having the Chi-Ha be a premium vehicle is almost like making the M4a2 Sherman a premium as well, since they were both iconic tanks produced in fairly large numbers. And this becomes even more apparent when we look at Japan’s TT, which has a large number of low production number things and prototypes, so if these can be included in the TT, there is absolutely no reason the primary tank used by Japan during WW2 can’t.
This also comes from the desperate need for a better Japanese tank for BR1, as the current tanks are dreadful to use, with depressingly innefective cannons with almost no HE filler. Moving this to the TT would allow for this to be fixed.
This change would, of course, would give a refund to those who bought the squad as it would be avalible for free, ideally the full price of the squad readded to the account and being able to keep the old premium squad.
I will say this as someone who owns the Chi Ha atm, I think it would be ideal to add it to the TT the same way the Jagdpanther was, where the premium one is removed from the store, but also gets a special camo, also rewards owners with another squad you can slot in.
And then ofc everyone else benefits from having the most iconic Japanese tank of the war.
One thing I will say though, if the Chi Ha came to the TT, there is a high likelihood that it would become BR2, since it is kinda OP, which I can self admit to having abused before, it feels like a pseudo crusader, just with more HE ammo, ofc its downside being mediocre AT ability which can be hampered on maps with lots of random fences or vegetation which like to prematurely detonate the HEAT rounds.
maybe give those who earned the chi-ha something i hate the idea of just making past items tech tree unless of course were also taking about making premiums tech tree fair is fair.
Premium chi ha should have Heat and HE + the unique camo. Tech tree chi ha would be tan and it would come with Heat and ap rounds. That way the premium tank is still worth it and better than tech tree variant similar to the moscow panzer 4e premium.
Chi ha kai should also be tech tree. The event variant would be given special skin so it would be similar to event tank skins like stuart “carol” for an example. It could get special shells like stuart rhino. The standard green variant would be put in tech tree
I think it’d be fine to bring the Chi-Ha to the TT so long as it was a little different from the premium one, like some different shells in the tank or at least a different look to it, so at least the premium one is visually distinct. Sure there’s more than likely a few options available for somewhat different versions of the Chi-Ha considering how many of them were made.
I do think BR1 Japan could definitely do with a nice little tank option or two, even tho I do love the Ka-Mi and Ha-Go it’d be good to have something that can somewhat more reliably compete with the BR 1 Allies tanks due to their armour.
I thought about that, but those would be slightly worse versions of the Chi ha with less crew, although I wouldn’t complain if they were added in some way since they’d still be interesting additions.
