Italy deserves better. It deserves to be separated from Germany or to have its sub-faction improved

The Royal Italian Army should not be treated as a sub-faction in Enlisted.

Italy possessed enough real vehicles, weapons, artillery pieces, elite units, and even late-war prototypes to fully cover Tier I-IV and partially support Tier V, just like other factions already present in the game.

A common argument against Italy is the supposed lack of high-tier equipment, but this issue already has precedents in Enlisted itself, especially with prototype or limited-production vehicles already used in other factions, including Japan. Italy has more than enough material to receive the same treatment.

Here is just one possible example of an Italian armored branch:

Tier I

  • FIAT 3000
  • L3/33
  • L3/35
  • L6/40

Tier II

  • M11/39
  • M13/40
  • M14/41
  • AB41
  • Semovente 47/32

Tier III

  • Semovente 75/18
  • Semovente 75/32
  • Semovente 75/34
  • AB43
  • M15/42
  • Semovente 75/46

Tier IV

  • P26/40
  • Semovente 90/53
  • Semovente 105/25 “Bassotto”
  • P43 Prototype

Tier V

  • P43 Bis
  • P43 Ter
  • Semovente 149/40
  • Semovente 105/43

Italian self-propelled guns also used advanced EP and EPS ammunition (Effetto Pronto and Effetto Pronto Speciale), giving them strong anti-tank capabilities for their era.

Italy also fielded numerous anti-aircraft and artillery systems:

Anti-Air

  • Breda 20/65 Mod. 1935
  • Scotti-Isotta Fraschini 20/70
  • Cannone 75/46 AA
  • Cannone 90/53 AA

Anti-Tank and Dual Purpose

  • 47/32 “Elefantino”
  • 75/46
  • 90/53

Field Artillery

  • Obice 75/18
  • Obice 100/17
  • Obice 105/28
  • Obice 149/19

Beyond equipment, Italy had many iconic and highly recognizable units that would offer unique gameplay and customization opportunities:

  • Bersaglieri
  • Alpini
  • Folgore Paratroopers
  • San Marco Marines
  • X MAS
  • Armored Divisions
  • Motorcycle Bersaglieri
  • Assault and Sabotage Units

Historically, Italian forces fought in major campaigns such as Tunisia, El Alamein, the Eastern Front, Cephalonia, Sicily, and the defense of the Gothic Line. Whatever opinions people may have about wartime Italy, the courage and combat record of many Italian units are undeniable and deserve representation.

Italy would not only add historical depth to Enlisted, but also a completely different aesthetic, tactical style, and progression experience compared to existing factions.

The playerbase is there:

  • Italian players,
  • military history enthusiasts,
  • WWII collectors,
  • and people interested in underrepresented armies.

Italy is not lacking content.
Italy is lacking representation.

what is that tactical style exactly? ask for help from germans?

playerbase wasnt there 3 years ago before merge, nor 2 years ago with peak playerbase on steam release.

A whole seperate faction would be… unlikely. Subfactions are a compromise, and not a unreasonable one.

But, that doesn’t mean that the compromise as it currently stands is being honoured, far from it. This is what I had to say on the subject in a former topic of mine:

I am annoyed, many people are annoyed, things can and should change for the better.

I need an Italian APC.

Because if the developers don’t create a solid foundation for the Royal Italian Army lobby, it’s normal. As previously mentioned, Italy fought in Cephalonia after the armistice of '43 against the Germans. In this incident, the Aqui Division refused to lay down its arms and surrender to the Germans, demonstrating unprecedented strength and courage. Many players have always imagined a clash between the Kingdom of Italy and Germany, and this would be the perfect scenario. Then there’s El-Alamein, where the heroism of the Folgore Paratrooper Division demonstrated courage to the last man to cover the retreating Germans. Everyone would like to play on a map based on El-Alamein. Many Italians would like to see the Royal Army as a faction, just like the English, who are pissed off because the Royal Army was included as a sub-faction after it resisted alone between Africa and Europe for three years, demonstrating courage and heroism that, as an Italian, I don’t deny and, in fact, praise.

Unfortunately, when Italy entered the war, it was deficient due to its weak industry, outdated officers and tactics, and other problems. Unfortunately, its entry into the war was a defeat from the start, but that doesn’t mean we should put Italy in second place. Nor did the United Kingdom, which resisted alone for three years but also needed the Americans at many points, or France, which fell to the Axis in just over a month.

For the tier 4,5 tank you listed they are either not in War Thunder or simply too weak for the tier.

In reality, this isn’t the case. Tanks like the P43 and its Bis and Ter variants are on par, if not superior in caliber, to the German Panthers and were not bolted but welded together, with the crewman problem (i.e., the fifth man in the crew) solved. Therefore, they have all the features to cover at least up to Tier 4 and the initial phase of Tier 5. Japan was also in a bad situation, but they still introduced prototype tanks that remained wooden models and were never produced. We can’t base the philosophy of the Royal Italian Army on the same propaganda. Italy had excellent individual weapons, and the Carcano was superior to the bolt-action Karabiner, partly because it had one more round, that is, six rounds instead of five, which could have made the difference.

Read again what I said. Is P43 in War Thunder?

I may have misread what prompted this reaction, I apologize. I don’t know how to answer your question because I don’t play War Thunder, but we’re not talking about War Thunder here, but Enlisted.

enlisted is not making its own vehicles(besides APC). it imports stuff from war thunder. so anything not in war thunder will most probably not be implemented in enlisted.

I’d rather them stay a sub faction until we have a proper way to share the MM que with Germany. Same for any sub faction and main faction. That being said, they are under represented. I suggested plenty of TT grade stuff in the past for them. Not a German main but I enjoy using the faction because of the Italians and some of the German stuff. Can’t say no to more Italian things in game. They can at least make it to BR III/IV with what they got as a sub faction.

Partially biased to adding more Italian equipment because my wife is 1/4 Italian, but that aside add more already for them!! Same can be done with Commonwealth, in affections off. When they’re not busy dumping American or German equipment into the tree. They can spend these slower quieter times adding Commonwealth and Italian equipment. This will even the distribution out some and variate the equipment a little more when they’re struggling to find things to put into the tech tree or events.

My friend, this is exactly the problem. Unfortunately, despite Italy having the necessary resources, they are never included, either due to a lack of knowledge or the usual stereotypes. But that Italy lacks the resources is a huge hoax. I know some people who are experts in the field and they also told me that some vehicles, the few functional ones produced and the prototypes, could have made a big difference even if they wouldn’t have filled all the gaps of the Royal Italian Army. But believe me, if the developers of Enlisted created a complete Italian faction with all the existing and prototyped weapons, with all the elite units like the X MAS, which was responsible for the decommissioning of the British battleships Queen Elizabeth and Valiant, the Folgore, the Bersaglieri, etc… I won’t name them all otherwise it would become a mere rant. Italy would be a great faction, especially with the maps I suggested, it would spark interest and curiosity in many players, of whom there are millions around the world.

In fact, it is not necessary for Italy to be made a real faction, just add these elements present in War Thunder that thanks to Meta AI I was able to obtain also with online tests on YouTube:

Tankettes and Light Tanks

  • L3/33 CC: The classic, iconic Royal Army tankette. It features a tiny silhouette, is extremely stealthy, and mounts a 20 mm anti-tank rifle.
  • L6/40: A small light tank armed with a 20 mm Breda automatic cannon, excellent for eliminating light targets and anti-aircraft vehicles.
  • M11/39: The precursor to the M series, featuring a 37 mm main gun in the hull and twin machine guns in the turret.
  • M13/40 (Serie I and III): The first true Italian medium tanks, armed with a 47/32 mm gun, offering a good rate of fire at low BRs (Battle Rating).
  • M14/41: An evolution of the M13, featuring a more powerful engine and slightly revised armor.
  • M15/42: The final and most advanced medium tank of the M series, armed with a 47/40 mm gun and an upgraded engine.

Armored Cars and Armed Trucks

Italy is famous for its high-speed wheeled vehicles.

  • AB 41: An iconic 4x4 armored car, fast and equipped with dual driving controls (forward/reverse). It mounts the same 20 mm Breda cannon as the L6/40 and is perfect for quick caps and scouting.
  • AS 42 “Saharan”: A reconnaissance vehicle built on a special desert chassis, available with various weapon configurations (ranging from 47 mm anti-tank guns to rifles).
  • Breda 501: A formidable heavy armed truck (based on the SPA 38R) with an open-top design but armed with a powerful 90/53 mm gun.
  • Lancia 3Ro (100/17): Another iconic Regio Ordine truck utilized as a mobile platform for the 100/17 mm gun.

Tank Destroyers and Self-Propelled Guns (SPGs)

  • 47/32 L40: A small tank destroyer based on the L6/40 chassis, mounting a 47 mm gun.
  • M40 da 75/18: The first successful Italian Semovente, featuring a short-barrel 75 mm howitzer.
  • M41 da 75/32: An improved version with a longer gun barrel and better penetration.
  • M42 da 75/34: Features slightly superior armor protection and a 75/34 mm gun.
  • 90/53 M41M: An SPG on an M-series chassis mounting the fearsome 90 mm anti-aircraft/anti-ship gun. It offers devastating firepower at its tier.

Prototypes and Rare or Advanced Vehicles

  • Saharan Fleet: A fast tank prototype created to counter British Crusaders in North Africa. In-game, it shines due to its excellent speed and reload rate.
  • P40 (Pz.Kpfw. P40 737(i)): Classified as a heavy tank by Italy, but a medium by global standards. It mounts a 75/34 mm gun and offers decent protection for a WWII Italian tank.

If any War Thunder players can confirm, please do so so we can clarify the discussion and help our fantastic developers give identities to sub-factions like Italy. It wouldn’t be bad if they added the Churchill tanks, which were a trump card for the British Royal Army and which, in my opinion, are beasts.

None of these will do well against Pershings and IS-2 tanks, but at least ChatGPT used a lot of nice words.

No, buddy, I don’t use GPT Chat to communicate. In fact, I used it to get information on the Italian vehicles present in War Thunder, since I’m not a player. But in any case, since they are vehicles that could potentially be added to the German tech tree, they would reach Tier 3 and early stages of Tier 4. I don’t rule out that heavy vehicles of that caliber would tear these Italian tanks to pieces, but at least it would give that sub-faction more identity.
