Hello bajtàrsak and fellow forumdwellers,
The Breda-SAFAT is Italy´s best machine gun of the second world war.
The weapon wad based on the M1919 MG and was originally designed as a stationary machine gun and as fixed armament for aircraft.
These weapons were chambered in 12.7x81mmSR as well as 7.7x56mmR.
During the war it became clear that the standard Italian light machine gun, the Breda 30 was insufficient for prolonged and reliable fire support, to fill this gap 7.7mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns were converted to infantry use.
Though heavy and bulky like the M1919A6, the Breda-SAFAT did offer excellent fire support thanks to its high fire rate (800-900 rpm) and belt fed feed system.
Considering its characteristics, its obviously a BR5 weapon.
There is little information available on the guns converted to infantry use, there doesn’t seem to be a clear standardised system involved suggesting that these may be field modifications, most appear to be the AA configuration equipped with a bipod for mobility instead of the standard tripod.
Would you like to see this gun in the game? If yes, at what role?
The “Yes” in the pool was unnecessary, or you could make two polls one asking about addition and another about the role, I get you can choose up to two options here but but it looks really weird this way
