I think the best part about being an older adult is you can afford to do hobbies the right way. I also like that TEMU exists because you can buy a million useful things that make hobby crafts so much better. I have 3 different types of motors and almost a 100 different bits to sand, shave, buff, alter sharper modify. All good stuff.
And if you are wondering how that constitutes diabolical design look at the line of sight for firing and the use of tank traps. I usually block both sides of the door with them. You may not get points for them but they are the absolute best defense in the game. They don’t blow up, you can’t shoot your way through them, the AI bounces on them. If I an trying to funnel people I will put a bag in the middle of two and the AI gets confused long enough to zap them. Spingle in 7-9AP’s on the edge of every corner or under a trap it effective. The people I play can always expect that kind of defense. It is kind of the unsung heroes of that ELO rating.

in my 4 years playing enlisted i only managed to get 30 day of total play like WTF dude? how???

Its called being old! I just enjoy “my” time, no longer married, not bothered by not having a girlfriend (I lived in SE Asia a long time its like dog years for having fun). I was also successful enough when I was young to survive comfortably while having free time. I do not drink, so I do not like bars, I do not like going out to eat because I know how to cook, I have a very small social circle so it also gives me more time. Its the number one greatest thing about being an introvert if you do not mind being with yourself you got all the time in the world. It also helped I was a full time student for 8 years and my job was literally less than a mile from my house. I racked up a lot of gaming hours in Thailand because I was a professional vacationer. My wife had a salon so I had tons of free time. Simple answer Being selfish and use all my time for me. Have enough cheddar that I can be comfortable for the moment and the last 16 odd years. The Ashersons call was because I worked at MS so we had free accounts and its the kind of place if you got your shit done gaming with our coworkers was completely acceptable if not encouraged.
Hardly a curse if you have the time in front of you. Live below your means, don’t waste money on stupid high priced shit or trying to look cool. In my head I can buy XYZ number of fun and interesting things or waste it on eating out, buying the latest game, console etc etc. NOPE! Frugality is a bounty of riches. I constantly build my game library 5-10$ at a time. Just got Trek to Yomi, Streets of rage 4, Saints Row 3 remastered (I wanted to compare it to GTA 6 getting woke).
Also have a 1:72 scale Airfix spitfire and bf109 on the go at the moment. Can’t have fewer than 10 projects on at a time or I’ll risk actually finishing something
Of all the Brands for plastic models I have to say Tamiya and Academy are my favorite because the way they fit together is very good. However I cannot say the same for the old Revell (new stuff is pretty good) or some of the old Airfix stuff (also the new stuff is good). I like the Ukrainian brands like Masterbox and Mini art (albeit Mini art makes things a bit over complicated for my taste). Italeri is quite good I built a 1/48 hurricane by them. Regarding the Wespe, I built something similar that being a Marder 3 also by Tamiya (I’m not too proud of it though because I used a single action Paasche H airbush so the camo looks meh). I have tons of stuff to build but like @Bill_Straenger says too many projects and I similarly might not finish anything. Bought a Tamyia M18 hellcat and an LVT4 from AFV Club I have yet to build I should really since they are some of my favorite vehicles in Enlisted I’ll try finish something first.
I haven’t built anything in a long while, like 15+ years. The only completed piece i even still have is this old dusty boy, missing a few pieces from having fallen off a shelf at least twice.
I know that one! They have 4-5 absolute classes its like Airfix and Matchbox at the 1/72 scale. It is the non digital imagination version of Enlisted. I have 100’s of them, they were reasonably priced. I see they make all kinds of plastic soldiers now. I also thought about time and investment there has to be more than a few Warhammer fanatics in the group that have 1000’s of hours and dollars invested into armies. Part of the enjoyment in those models was the diorama part. I also enjoyed N-scale trains. Those things are stupid priced now.
Revell was 1970’s early 80’s slop, The European and Japanese stuff started to become accessible. YOu paid more but the equality gap was worth the price. they had good models but when they started branding it started to go down hill. I think model building were one of the hobbies that were popular with kids post technology. They are actually engaging.
The old revelle was made in USA whereas now it’s German made, however I don’t think it’s an America problem (not that anyone said it was) because MRC is good and they are or were American made. Regarding those Airfix soldiers I like the 1/32 ones even if the poses are a bit stiff the 1/72 and 1/76 ones or at least my ones are soft plastic so not easy to paint or prime or trim flashing from them. I like them their retro now and there aren’t as many brands making 1/72 figures as their are 1/35 spare Italeri and I don’t know how good their small figures look but from images I would say “not good”. I know you can buy small resin figures now in 1/72 by Mig Ammo but they are stupid pricey (can be around 25 USD) for a couple figures so are the 1/35 ones for that matter. Hard plastic is good enough IMO and I can still live with soft plastic.
I don’t play any tabletop games (anymore) so for me i think 1:35 is prime for soldiers. Smaller than that you need to be a real pro to make them look anything decent. It’s been years since I’ve built anything, and I haven’t done figures since pewter warhammer back in the 90s.
With age comes experience, but also poor eyesight and shaky hands. 1:35 for me is good. Especially since there are loads of good armour models at 1:35.
As a followup, this is where we’re at after applying iron acetate stain to the front and back (leaving the edges clean), no clear coat yet, bridge/pickups/neck just placed for aesthetic check, nothing attached or wired yet
you are far more skilled than I am! I am too afraid to mess with any of my other guitars. Guitars are weird I have yet to sell one. I gave one to my friends daughter so she could play with us but it was a cheapo someone gave me.
This is a DIY guitar kit, $159 canadian loony dollars before tax and shipping. For me it’s an inexpensive experimentation platform. In fact, I’m going to burn “Theseus” into the headstock, as i plan on slowly replacing every piece of the guitar over time with higher quality bits.
The cheapest squier telecaster i could find was $199 CAD, and was inferior by all accounts. This canadian kit company has been going for 15+ years and has really good reviews on product quality and just general service/support.
I haven’t done a full build/fit check to make sure it’s all sounding/working well because I’M LAZY, but once the fit and finish is done i will assemble and judge it.
For me the main selling point is that everything (routing, scale, screw holes, etc etc) is “standard” meaning any and every part can be replaced with a higher quality version with no extra drilling/routing/etc.
