How To Effectively Nerf Select-Fires (Without Making Them Unfun To Use)

Again. I just want to know how lowering the dmg is a good approach. It just makes select fires assault rifle clones. Increased recoil gives them an identity that falls into their name. Selecting the fire mode depending on the engagement. But it shouldn’t be a blanket response like the test server otherwise we have things like the type hei auto and m2 carbine being too strong after.

Speaking for myself, this post is something of a compromise, for those who want BR 5 to have a slower pace than what Select-Fires currently offer, but without making Select-Fires suck to use or lose their identity. I’m in the camp that wants everything buffed to match the pace, fun, and feel of a 9 man select-fire squad, but some people do not want that.

Select fires don’t have an identity. They’re just one shot assault rifles kinda like the Scotti and federov. If anything the recoil changes gave them an identity by making them live to their name.

Blanket nerfs DONT work. Any blanket nerf will make certain SF rifles unfairly better than others.

for the last time, Breda PG (CR) is already one of the worst performing guns for infantry in the BR, a nerf is completely pointless for it.

Yes. Again. That was the main issue with the test server. Not the kind of or extent of a nerf they were implementing.

Their (DF) biggest mistake was adding the type hei with 13.9 damage, making the fedorov completely obsolete (federov dealt 12.6 damage at the time, and was still considered top 3 weapon in the game. It could not one shot vitality, yet it was still considered better than the stg, perhaps due to better dispersion and longer range effectiveness). The result of trying to fix that imbalance set by the type hei by raising the damage across the board, just lead to a massive powercreep, and increasing the time to kill of battle rifles. The type hei auto should have been added nerfed, slightly less damage then fedorov, slightly longer reload (it’s a light machine gun), heck the amazing bullet accuracy on it is wholly fiction. Maybe even just add it as a 20 round variant only.

From history, we know that some battle rifles had exceptionally good recoil handling, like the FG 42 2 (it was first added to the game with an amazing default 52 vertical and 10 horizontal recoil values). Even the AVS, while it may be a chonker, is still not as bad to fire as the mg 42. And yet the player in game can ADS fire the mg 42.

It’s never too late to implement a damage nerf. The handling still remains, the fun is still there, the noobs still get slaughtered, but the guns aren’t overpowered anymore. The higher alpha damage still make a difference in long range shooting, especially considering that shots don’t always land on the torso.

Type hei auto and m2 carbine should’ve been made assault rifles.

I think it would look much better in the light machine gun niche.

Same here

Weird theory, Soviet don’t even fight Japan when type hei auto was added, so how did federov become completely obsolete?

The damage buff to federov was way before Soviet fight Japan, where did the imbalance comes from?

I like my FG42 II, I don’t want it nerfed

very honest take there, it handles well and I don’t want it to change
