I’m saying the ho ni is definitely not better than Chaffee.
M24 has no armor. Slower reload. And solid shot. And worse pen.

It’s about bring a 75mm cannon to br 1. I’m bringing up a br 2 75mm as a counter example.
There already a tank much better with a 75mm cannon in the BR1

Very inconsistent. The 75/18 M41 would work better in BR I because it also has a roof mounted MG to help.
And yet even considering all that it’s good enough for it to be my favorite br 1 tank. And you want something similar with way better he.
Don’t give it HE. Have the 75/18 M41 at BR I without HE. Just APHE (low pen, but same TNT filler) and Smoke and have the 75/32 M41 at BR II with APHE, HE and HEAT.
Talking about the ho ni
I’m not. I’m talking about the 75/32 M41
as an idea, ho-ni 1 could receive the same treatment as the semovente 72/32 m41, by replacing all its projectiles by the type 95 aphe to be suitable for br1.
according to warthunder’s armor penetration calculator (and assuming both type 1 and type 95 shells share the same velocity) the type 95 shell would be able to penetrate up to 75mm of armor:
so for comparasion: semovente would have slightly superior penetration (77mm APCBC vs 75mm APHE), worse postpen effect (270g vs 460g TNT) and slower reload speed (7.5s vs 6.0s). however, semovente boasts superior armor and most importantly, is not open-top.

It seems the armor is somewhat irrelevant when speaking of Ho-Ni but apparently it is extremely important regarding chaffee.
Anyway, it kinda seems you fail to understand that anything even mild breeze of fart is enough to kill Ho-Ni.
While chaffee does indeed have armor around the crew and requires bit more than breeze of fart to take out.
