As you can see, there’s a machine gun where the shield is located, thus bringing us to the question.
Do you guys and gals want to give the Stug 3 G a machine gun where the it’s missing it?

  • Yes, It should have a machine gun
  • No it shouldn’t
  • I don’t care.

And if so, then which machine gun should it have?

  • It should have the MG-34
  • It should have the MG-42
  • I voted no
  • I don’t care

many late production StuG G had coaxial machine guns.
However, even a few lucky mid-production Stug Gs got them.

Here is a Stug G late with the same modification

I didn’t know that, that’s pretty cool, and could make the Stug 3 G even more useful and unique.

Also @GasMasters-live , could you please vote on which machine gun the Stug 3 G should have?

A Stug G with a coax would be a very good BR3 vehicle. Even premium STUG G currently is “just good” since it does have a good gun and very nice armor - but that can only get you so far…when having very little infantry support power.

Well the Stug 3 G could have both the coax and the mg on top would be both cool and useful.

Ok, having the gun shield modeld but not the gun it is supposed to protect is just next level stupid…

Now I cant unsee that nonesence.

You’re welcome

As part of the reason to why the G didn’t get downtiered to BR 2 last update with the F, I believe the developers confirmed that it will be getting a machine gun at some point.

I dont think they outright confirmed it but just said they would more or less look into it.

I remember Euthy saying something along the lines that they are examining the possibilities of giving it a machine gun.
Personally I believe that it was not downtiered because it has around ~95mm of frontal armour with the exception of some weakspots. I get it that its not really worth using over a Panzer IV H, but its too good for BR2 and Im glad the devs realised it too.

To be honest, I really hope all variants of the StuG III can be fitted with machine gun shields and machine guns like this, including versions from A, F, G all the way to the 105mm cannon variant.
I don’t think this is too much to ask for, right?

I dont remember seeing a StuH42 with such a modification…

Personally I wouldnt mind if the Hungarian Zrinyí II was added too.

It has a reverse gear box so you can reverse with the same top speed, giving the vehicle a chance to tactically retreat.
Though the most fair against the M4A3 (105) on BR3 would be Sturmgeschütz 33B which even has a machine gun in its hull, too bad its not in WT. I guess it will be added as BP or event eventually though.

There is little chance of adding coaxial machine guns for now. We only hope to add gun shields for the machine gunner seats.

Is the vehicle below the 150mm howitzer variant built on the Panzer III chassis? It seems capable of pushing the StuG II out of BR 2.

As for the 105mm Sherman, its battle rating has already been raised by one tier in Enlisted, while it is only BR 2 in War Thunder. Its extremely slow turret rotation and reload speed often leave it no chance to fire. Even though it can penetrate Panthers easily, it gets taken out far more often. It performs so well in Enlisted simply because its 105mm gun is extremely effective against infantry.

yes, please

Regardless of armour, it should have been moved down to BR 2 if it’s not going to receive any form of machine gun. It has too many drawbacks to warrant it staying in BR 3.

A part of your frontal armor being 95mm can also do so much, when there’s a big-ass 50mm weakspot on your gun & around it

true, but your gun breech will soak up all of the damage from a BR1 tank and you can quickly repair it from inside the tank. Meaning it will do zero damage to the crew.
Same goes for the transmission area, except that cant be repaired from inside.

Killing a Stug G with BR1 tanks frontally is just painfully difficult, you need to hit a very small area of commander copula (a spot most even know about…)

If that was the baseline for setting a tank’s BR, that is can be killed easily by a tank from a lower BR, then we’d be in an entirely diffrent game now. If we’re looking at BR 2 tanks, then I’ve been OHK’d by even the L-11 from the T-28.

If you want this tank to stay at BR 3, then you need to give it a better mantlet

I looked into the matter and found StuH42 with coaxial machine gun.
A picture from Belgrade, showing the wrecks of an Italian Carro Armata M15/42 and StuH42 (with its barrel broken).

Same vehicle from another angle, the hole is undoubtedly for a machine gun.

However on the early StuGs like the StuG A in game, there is simply no room for a machine gun.

And Im yet to see a StuG F with coax machine gun or any machine gun for that matter.
The F variant is surprisingly rare so its possible that they did not survive or we dont have a picture of such modification…
As far as I know machine gun shields were introduced with F/8 variant.

Finally, back to StuH 42…
similar to late production StuG vehicles, StuH42 assault guns would receive a remote controlled machine gun on the top. Though the one we have in the editor is an early model so Im not sure if the devs would be willing to add the remote controlled machine gun to that (the remote controlled mg is already modelled on the Hetzer in WT).
