ur also trying to justify ur case by bringing in the absolute worst tanks of br 2 (and even some from br 1) when those dont matter for this topic. what matters is the best tanks. unless u can justify the chaffee being stronger than the grant, m8 scott, panzer 4 f1, t28 e, etc with a m61 addition u dont have an argument for it not getting m61

As for armor there really isnt a diffrence between a tank with 20mm of armor or 50mm since 90% of the time the same projectile that would be able to pen the 20mm would also be able to pen 50mm or armor.

The ROF of a tank gun also is a stat that has decreased value in a tank duel as most might are won by who shoots first, leaving very little space for reloads to actively matter.

and heat isnt consistent on majority of vheicles cuz the volume of fire means you can give the other tank plenty of damage before it can react.

The rof in tank vs tank doesnt really matter as much in a as the tank that shoots first almost always wins and as for against infantry it still is just fine.

there is a threshold for that reload stat: gunners coming back and reacting. Chaffee is past that threshold while almost every other tank isnt. If who shoots first is the thing that matters then by that logic the m61 only marginally improves the tanks effectiveness and doesnt change its overall standing within the br bracket

“only” 78mm of pen tbf this one is an outlier without a drawback really. Could be BR 3 and still be playable even if not great (outside of an uptier but that would be most tanks in BR 3).

Casemate and open top, No coax, hull mg

Stug A:
Casemate, low velocity, 50mm of pen on APHE only, limited HEAT 80mm that also is used for infantry, quickly ammo starved, no coax

75mm puma:
Casemate, low velocity, 50mm of pen on APHE only, limited HEAT 80mm that also is used for infantry

75/32 M41:
No HE, no coax

P4 E:
low velocity, 50mm of pen on APHE only, HEAT 80mm

As for the tanks that use HEAT they often have to aim for certain spots to one shot which certainly is a downside given that it still is closer to AP than APHE in post pen performance putting you in a direct disadvantage in any tank vs tank engagements.

As for armor there really isnt a diffrence between a tank with 20mm of armor or 50mm since 90% of the time the same projectile that would be able to pen the 20mm would also be able to pen 50mm or armor.
There are only 3 tanks in the entire game with less than 50mm of pen for the allied factions so even the 50mm of front armor the germans/ japanese have isnt an issue.
So again none of the tanks above have any meaningful armor protection that will make a diffrence if hit by AT. The only exeptions are the 3N SG but that one still only has 50mm on the turret which isnt a huge deal to overcome and the T 28 variants with its troll mg turret eating the enemy shells remaining largely unharmed.

Now if you give the M24 M 61 it would have none of the downsides above exept for maybe the a bit slower reload but that one also does not matter as much in a tank duel. But in exchange you would have exelent armor pen capable of lol pening every tank until BR 4 (especially given the utter lack of armor on axis tanks until BR 4) with enough filler to also garantee a 1 shot paired with exellent mobitiy and turret traverse. Also having a pintle mounted MG is very uncommen at that BR with only the 3N SG also having one (but in 7,92mm not 12,7m).

While I understand that the M24 AP is a bit underwhelming in its performance the APHE would be way to much with tanks like the Ho-Ni 3 and chi-nu (also P4 F2 and stug 3 F if you concider the lower filler and that the increased pen is generally counteracted by better armor on the allied side) also beeing stuck at BR 3.

As for mobility I feel like you vastly underestimate just how usefull it can be even if flanking isnt a possibility. High speed can still mean beeing able to

• outrun infantry with TNT or EP
• less time wasted just traveling
• additional distance between you can bombs
• beeing less limited by slopes
• less time exposed when crossing a street in a city
• harder target on the move

Edit: given the implementation of the playable hull MG that also is more of a downside than an upside for me.

If the Chaffee has the M61 shot then it will be able to one shot the tank that can one shot it easily already. Also German tanks just get one shot by everything till BR4 so really who cares,.

Also the M61 isn’t guaranteed to one shot a tank, so having a slow reload makes it more difficult to get a follow up shot. That and also the fact that the M8 Scott would still have nearly twice the HE shells means that the M8 Scott would remain the King of BR2. Also the Ho-I is GOATed I will not tolerate Ho-I slander.

Personally I don’t think any tank should be stuck with basic AP, it’s pathetic and often annoying to use with how inconsistent the damage is.

You keep repeating this and what are you comparing it to 57mm and 37? 75 grant?

The reload isn’t “slow” either regardless of stats… and you have the two machine guns to keep you company.

It’s crazy how people never mention japanese tanks.

Take the Chi-Nu : it has worse armor (completly flat 50 mm that most BR1 tank can easily pen), mediocre fire rate (6s), mediocre pen (100mm) mediocre mobility, no coaxial MG.

It’s only redeeming factor is its decent post pen damage due to HE filler in the AP shell.

I dare you to say that a BR2 Chaffee with M61 ammo would be worse than the BR3 Chi-Nu.

And I say that as an owner of a Chaffee (it’s an extremly good vehicle at BR2, and while I agree that its german counterpart, Pz III M, is better, giving the Chaffee M61 would make it instanly the best tank killer at BR2)

The reload is double the length of most German tanks (50mm and 75mm), m8 Scott, and is 1.7 seconds longer than the grant Lee. The only two tanks of the br with a longer reload is the su76m and the Alecto

That is a problem with Japan tanks. American tanks shouldn’t be kept down cuz of it. Japan tanks should be buffed. Unless you want to start advocating for nerfing all American tanks

If you need to aim for weakspots/ammo racks first you lose valuable time and possibly miss the sweetspot meaning every duel is that much more dangerous.
APHE mostly removes that aspect.
