Give the FM 24/29 to Germany

The FM 24/29 is a gold order weapon that we have in game, and it is one of the primary LMGs that was used by French forces in WW2. While it did see a lot of use by the French of course, Germany also had used it quite a lot under the new designation MG 116(f), capturing and using many due to the a large quantity being produced before the invasion (190,400 to 232,900 or so being produced in total) and the gun’s reliability. These were commonly used in France and in the lowland countries typically as machine guns for bunkers and other fortifications (especially so on the Atlantic Wall), and also saw some use with second-line troops on the Eastern Front, with examples even in Russian museums from the amount encountered on the Eastern Front. Due to the widespread usage of these, there exist many photos of this gun in German use. This would probably be added as an event weapon due to it’s status as a captured weapon, but you could possibly vouch for it being TT with just how many were used, similar to the Mas 36.

I generally hate the Shark fin top mount magazines, however the only two top magazine MG’s I tolerate are the Madsen and the BP Chatellerault FM 24/29. I have four of the FM 24/29’s and like them at BR2, but I just replaced two with the new Lewis rifle, so I only have two in action now.

However, I would consider using it if offered to the Germans.

I don’t mind top mounted magazines too much except for a few guns, but I also quite enjoy using the madsen, people (mostly Russian mains) say it’s terrible, but I find it’s pretty nice, even if not as good as German MGs

I think the gun sight on the Madsen has been improved over the original, however I can’t remember how the original looked. I prefer the RPK 1943 over the Madsen, so I use four of them and three Madsen’s in my BR2 lineup.

Thank you for your post.

An interesting idea.

I voted Yes (tech tree) however my first preference would be:

  • French Army squads added to Allies tech tree.
Players would have the ability to equip French uniforms and choose FRANCE like we currently do with USA and UK for voicelines (we have French voicelines from Moroccans and French resistance Allied event/premium squads.)

  • As per above, the FM 24/29 be added to Allied tech tree, perhaps foldered with a Bren gun.

As you will recall FM 24/29 was a gold order weapon for Allies. This was a strange decision at the time when we had and still havent got any French soldiers.

Having said all that you are correct about the MAS 36 and also Czech ZB 26 and Vz.24 rifle being in German tree.
I am very open to the FM 24/29 being given to Germany, but that must not mean we never get Free French soldiers for Allies.

Why not make it a bp gun? Kinda like fn 1930 is available for both japan and germany as gold order weapon

I have a very crazy idea, what if the French weapon was added to France?

Yes, adding a weapon to non existent faction is kinda crazy.

Add it? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Would totally main a BR 1-2 locked France faction which plays against BR 1-2 Germany (reworked to fit 1940)

When PS added France 1940 it was awesome, albeit a bit too hardcore for my liking.

I would happy even with a proper Free French subfaction.

Only if using the German designation as MG-116(f).

How would that work?

You choose full French setup and get sent to Guadalcanal?

French in the Pacific is still not as bad as the Chinese in Tunisia. Im still waiting for a historical game mode since most people have no idea what countries, with what gear participated in which campaigns and frankly, a large portion of the player base doesn’t even care.

I agree with the message, but I don’t quite understand the concept of “subfactions” seem people keep mentioning.

I previously suggested a new faction comprised of the following:

FRANCE
POLAND
NETHERLANDS
BELGIUM

In the case of the Pacific, French soldiers would automatically get Dutch uniforms (Dutch fought in the Pacific).

Now if France or other nations were added as sub factions to USA-UK i dont see why that cant work either.

Again French squads would automatically get Dutch uniforms for Pacific. Otherwise they could get Canadian uniforms and represent French speaking Canadians.

French can fight in Tunisia, Normandy, maybe Bulge. Otherwise could get standard US uniforms.

Free Polish are also options in Tunisia, Italy if added, D Day.

I also previously made a post about foldered tech trees. This is basically what we mean by sub-factions.

We have the overall faction ALLIES (or western allies if you like)

Then I would envisage drop down tech trees:

USA
UK + Commonwealth
France
Poland
etc.

Each would open a tech tree similar to how it exists now. As these are all within the overall faction it wouldnt matter if not all nations can go to BR V.

National uniforms would be freely available with a free default version for all nations including different geographical gear where necessary.

Players could click FRANCE or BRITAIN etc. as we currently do to auto change voicelines.

Weapons would be shared between all nations as it is at the moment.
