Give Japan the Type 88 Hanyang rifle

In the latest update, the Far Eastern Front, the Type 88 Hangyang was added to the soviet tech tree, which has since added China as a subfaction quitely. This decision, while understandable if China is a Soviet subfaction, was also somewhat controversial, as people had long asked for this gun to be added to Japan as a captured rifle. This is due to the abundance of the weapon, with over 1 million rifles being produced before and during WW2, of which Japan had used many captured rifles in second line and garrisoned troops, and Manchukuo also largely employing the rifle. This would be a nice contrast to the Type 38 and Type 99, and would be a really easy ‘new’ weapon to give to Japan, with it already in game for a while.

It makes absolutely no sense for the devs to have put the Hanyang 88 in the USSR TT. There aren’t any Chinese squads in the TT, so what’s the point? To equip one or two soldiers from the two Chinese Assault squads? If it were an event or Premium squad, that would be fine, but in TT? Now the damage is done, Now Japan should receive the Hanyang 88 in TT as it should have been from the beginning.

Rhetorical question: Has the Japanese army occupied Hanyang, China? If not, why give Chinese weapons to Japan?

Following your logic, shouldn’t Soviet weaponry include Japanese weapons, since the Japanese army surrendered in August 1945?

Because the Japanese captured thousands and they used it for 8 years

The Japanese used thousands, the Soviets not

I think it can be included, but more as a non-tech tree weapon. I’m also against this weapon being added to the Soviet Union, because this might imply that China doesn’t have an independent camp.

I don’t think anyone is going to take the Type 88 rifle away from the USSR and give it to Japan.

I can suggest a Japanese modification with the capability to attach the Japanese Type 30 bayonet.

«This is a Japanese modification of the German Model 1888 rifle. During the War of Resistance, the Japanese captured many Model 1888 and Hanyang-style rifles in China. The Japanese replaced the original stocks with Japanese-style ones and modified the bayonet lug and barrel alignment to accommodate the standard Japanese Type 30 bayonet. It is generally believed that this class of rifle was intended for training purposes only. While this specific rifle remains chambered in 7.92 mm, the outer diameter of the barrel is 13.8 mm rather than the standard 1888’s 13.4 mm, suggesting the barrel may have been replaced; the front sight has also been swapped for a Japanese version. The cleaning rod cannot be removed and is merely for show. The area from the receiver to the rear sight is thicker, as the barrel jacket remains in that section while the rest has been removed.»

It is strictly a Chinese rifle, simply captured as war booty.

Never said anything about removing it from them, I just said how it was a little controversial when it was added

Sure, I don’t have any problem with that.

I’ve got a Hanyang 88 the Japanese used as a training rifle. They captured a lot of Hanyangs and put them in Arisaka-style stocks and used them as training rifles, presumably still in the original 8mm.

This is what one would look like. They even take Type 30 bayonets.

As much as I dislike copy paste, this is one of those I’d be happy with. Japan needs more in the TT, especially tanks, planes, and sniper 3’s to name a few.
