With game changing updates like this coming there’s always going to be people upset about it, but in my opinion the campaign system was really holding this game back and was my primary gripe with it, and many of my friends I’ve talked to about it have all thought the same, however people seem to be mad about losing “historical accuracy” in a game where there’s multiple 5 man squads running around with prototype weapons of which only 1-2 were ever made. I think the update will absolutely be good for the game as new players will hopefully no longer have to be fighting flamethrowers and assault rifles with a bolt action rifle due to the rating system, but what do you guys think?

I am not sure. Maybe someday I will want to play some Moscow map with bolt action / semi-auto guns, and then what - I will get Moscow map with Tigers II and IS-2 ?
It will be a good update for new players, but bad for veterans.

If the rating system they have in War Thunder is any indication, it’ll be based on what equipment you have your squads equipped with, not what you have unlocked, so if you have a Mosin/Kar 98 and BT-5/Pz 35t equipped then you will fight similar weaponry and vehicles
The first flamethrower is 1 star so there will always be flamethrowers, jokes on you

There are weapons with no stars, so not always.
And you won’t get a flamethrower if you equip stuff with 2 stars

That’s totally incorrect, if you play 2 stars all 1 star weapons will be able to be played.
Also no star is starter weapons, as it is currently every squad starts off with a single guy with a 1 star weapon and we are forced to take a vehicle so which must be 1 star, so 0 star battles are impossible.
Yes, all 3 stars can be played as well.
But the MM will try to match you with other 2 star weapons (That’s what I am assuming the stars are, the equipment rating they talked about. We could both be wrong and they mean something completely different)

In fact, now that I look at it, the flamethrower is a 2 star, so you made an even bigger fool of yourself

No, however the roadmap they provided insinuates they plan on doing so when the current BP ends. We will have to wait and see to be sure though.

As of currently flamethrowers are 1 star, some photoshop image that isn’t finalized doesn’t mean anything
Why would they add a star for the image if they were just going to leave everything as is? What would the purpose be?
Keofox said the image had no meaning and is only an example, so again it means nothing

What I think, is that the game will be a war thunder mod.
Many ppl like it. Many others don’t.
It will be a different product entirely, very akin to all generic shooters on the market, with the only thing making it stand out being squads of multiple toons.
Nothing else much.
