From the battlefield: Saboteurs

I think the Reddit being independent has got its own benefits, for example it has it’s own rules, also Gaijin can censor whatever they dislike and since it’s moderated by the community it feels more informal.

Sure but at the end of the day if decisions are gonna be primarily impacted by the reddits opinion on it, why not make the Reddit the default form of communication between community managers and the community?

Lots of reasons:

•enlisted Reddit is independent

•the Reddit is less moderated and has different moderation rules (less control for Devs to hide what they dislike)

•forum has enforced categories (helps streamline looking through suggestions)

•mods are Gaijin employees, so they are more consistent when it comes to enforcing rules because they have probably been given the same instructions on it.

•Forum has polls

•Everybody uses their account on the forum, this stops mass fake account spam, also accounts can’t post unless they play regularly (Reddit has no such system)

I will say polls are available on Reddit.

The polls on Reddit can still be faked, as I mentioned every forum account is a real person, not every Reddit account is.

You can still make alts in enlisted. It just takes slightly longer.

None of the polls shown are valid. Forums are notorious for only representing the loud minority.

Most people who play these games play casually. Those people don’t get on forums.

Furthermore, none of these polls are random and all of them are biased in one or multiple ways.

Of course they’re bias but the forum is a lot harder to use bot or alt accounts and that’s all I was talking about.

Due to the far greater pool of players on Reddit it evens out the difficult of making alts with the influence of each alt

Hmm not really sure what a copy+paste of the covert-ops class of return to castle wolfenstein/enemy territory is going to add to the the gameplay of enlisted (in the other games you actually had a reason to be “behind enemy lines” due to map related mechanics) .

Feels redundant and can already be done with guerrillas…

Well finally an “event-squad-slot” , thats nice !

Lets you approach apc and rally points safely without worried about being 360 no scoped by a bot

Indeed, guerrilla troops are already sufficient. Setting aside the lesser objections regarding war crimes and Japanese soldiers disguising themselves as American troops, this unit is essentially just a 2.0 upgraded version of guerrillas—they serve the exact same purpose.
What guerrillas can do, this new unit can do, and vice versa.

The fact that they won’t be targeted by AI and can wear enemy uniforms sounds more like a feature meant for PvE modes.
In a large-scale battlefield like this, one player can command 8 AI soldiers. The difference in combat power between one player and five is not that significant.

The key issue is that this class is only a single unit, so its actual combat effectiveness is very limited. It can neither wipe out 10 enemies with a buff weapon alone nor effectively change the outcome of the battle.

Our mode is already 10v10. After excluding plane and tank slots, we already worry about players sniping instead of capturing objectives and causing losses. This new class will only encourage more players to avoid objectives, leaving fewer people willing to play properly.

Its only roles are rear-area harassment and destroying spawn points, and it is extremely inefficient at weakening enemy forces.

Take an extreme scenario: the defenders field three saboteurs for harassment, with the rest defending; the attackers all use 9-man squads, tanks, and planes. Even then, there is no reason to believe saboteurs would perform better than regular guerrilla troops.

You’re right. This is fundamentally a team game where we fight alongside large numbers of AI soldiers. The new class, being just a single unit, feels extremely out of place.

It was designed as a solo unit essentially just to differentiate it from guerrillas and avoid overlapping functions. But apart from being ignored by AI and able to wear enemy uniforms, guerrillas with several AI can cause far more damage behind enemy lines. Guerrillas even have five submachine guns and can help relieve pressure on the front lines when needed.

Even if this class were added to a solo mode, it would only completely disrupt the game and make everyone feel anxious. Few experienced players would take the time to carefully check a soldier’s face, hat, and shoes to distinguish friend from foe.

For most players, as soon as they see someone moving in the wrong direction, retreating, or heading toward a spawn point, they will almost certainly shoot first. It will become impossible to tell if it’s a teammate or an enemy.

When mistakes happen, team kicking and verbal abuse will be inevitable. A real saboteur should be like an agent sabotaging railways and facilities in German-occupied areas. However, this kind of role is much more suitable for PvE; putting it in PvP is just ridiculous.

Man, the “huge” update is taking so long, so much for no delays

It seems they’re gonna push the update straight away without even releasing a test server. The reason updates are so slow right now is that War Thunder hasn’t updated yet.

As stated, it’s from reddit.

But there is also a official Discord.

Sure makes it “easier” but also not really a problem on alot of the maps right now.

Just do a wide flank on the edge of the zone, popout behind the infantry spawns, pick some vegetation of your choice as “concealment” (bots are coded to recognize you less) , dont ADS on bots (they got spiderman-powers and can “sense danger”) and you are fine.

Rallies are already “blocked” for the enemy when you are near them so its more of a “timing thing”.

For taken out APC i also see the real benefit because we all know what kind of “drive-by-gods” bots are when they sit in an APC

In the other mentioned games the covert-ops class had “stuff to do” while being “under-cover” like opening 1-way-doors to let your friends in (medival-castle-siege-style) or immobilizing the vehicle the enemy has to escort, backstabbing the enginneer when he tries to fix it etc…

Also those games where 16vs16 or even bigger matches where its much easier to “blend in”.

Its already often a problem in enlisted when 4 people are in vehicles and only 60% of the team are “boots on the ground” to get anything “objective releated” done…

I guess we just got to “wait” and see how all of this “turns out”…
