The Germans should be able to use the flaktowers in berlin to provide anti-air cover for the team. Historically the flak towers made life of soviet pilots very difficult.
My idea is that the German radio man should be able to call in flak cover from the towers. This will give a couple of minutes of cover from the towers, shooting every enemy plane that flies into its range.
After the ability is over it needs to cooldown for atleast 5 minutes before it can be used again. The ability can only be used once per time. and also only covers the active battlefield. so if i call in the flakturm, another player will not be able to call it in for atleast 5 minutes. and it will only cover the current battlefield. not areas that cannot be reached by infantry.
This allows player CAS to stay out of the range of the flaktower. until the coverage is gone.or take the risk and bomb while the flaktower is active. having a risk of getting shot down.
remember i don’t want this ability to be a Kill all CAS button. It should be a deterrent first and foremost.
The Soviet equivalent of this ability could be to call in a squad of fighters. which would try to intercept German player CAS. and after a couple of minutes leaves the battlefield.
This ability would give a team that has no good player CAS or fighter atleast a chance to counter it,
To many matches have i played. both on Soviet and German side. were my entire team simply gets wiped by one good CAS player. adding an ability that everyone has access to (radioman is accesible in every squad) to atleast counter it somewhat seems like a good solution.

Im pretty sure HISTORICALLY there was not any cas for germans so mayby german planes should be removed instead? That way its historical accurate

this really shows your historical ignorance. Hans urlich Rudel. one of the most well known pilot aces was piloting a Stuka CAS plane during the batlle of berlin.
as a map it would be cool as well.
do you have any real argument against it being used as a gameplay feature? besides just not liking it?

to begin with how would it be used in battle?
how would you balance the possibility for the Germans to shoot down every Soviet plane?
on how many maps would it work?
would it require specific rules?
would it be usable only by the Germans or also by the Russians in certain circumstances?

The soviets would get an ability that is similair in effect. but different in execution. for example a fighter squadron patrolling the area.
Or we can just continue with CAS dominating every match and not being able to counter it effectively…
And this is the problem make here usable not only one time but every 5 minute make soviet air superiority useless and replace here with the german one is not replacing soviet cas spam with german cas spam you resolve the cas problem
uhm i clearly said the soviets would get an ability that is equal in effect to counter German CAS spam. German CAS spam is countered as well. so nothing is replaced.
The point of this ability is that no matter the side you are on. there is always a possibility to counter CAS spam.
How? is the soviet activate their ai plane and next the german use the flacktower the result is the same
next ai plane? Sure if this is company of heroes this is not an rts your idea is completely unbalanced in German favor the cas need a rework not add other breking game things
In my opinion option to call a Flak barrage would be enough. It could be used by all sides and would be basically arty call but against planes. (I forgot who made this idea.)
No need to add anything more fancy than that.

In my opinion there should be constant AA barrage going without calling anything. More team uses/crashes planes more intensive it would be so suiciders would just ruin cas for whole team

Flaktowers were also providing anti-tank/artillery support to the defenders of the Reichstag.
I’m not certain those towers were that useful historically for what they cost the Germans to make… and I fear most were already neutralized once the actual infantry invasion started.
However!
For the sake of gameplay, a mechanism to use those towers, or simply a map with one of those might be really interesting. I’m not against it.
Actually those was very useful. Flak towers was used as bomb shelter for civilians cause even heavy bombers couldnt seriously damage those
In any case, it would be nice to be able to assault those. Namely the zoo flak tower, wich is considered to be the last point of resistance in Berlin. Defenders could have access to 2cm canons to defend from ground assault, like in history, but assaulters could have alot more tickets than usual (rest of Berlin was pretty much already conquered by then, so it would make sense)
They were actually very useful historically during the battle. From what I’ve read they were mostly used as artillery or direct fire support. I think it would be cool to have them represented in the game but I imagine they would be hard to balance. Here are some quotes/excerpts about the Berlin Zoo tower.
“…until the heavier anti aircraft guns from the Zoo tower could gain line of sight through the smoke. They destroyed the tanks and left the bridge covered in destroyed vehicles, which blocked further vehicles from crossing the bridge. The heavier 12.8 cm FlaK 40 anti aircraft guns obliterated Soviet armor, particularly when hitting it from the side.”
“The tower was never successfully assaulted, therefore it was still able to provide anti-tank support to the defenders in the Government district For example, during daylight hours on April 30, the Soviets were unable to advance across the open areas in front of the Reichstag to attack the building because of heavy anti-tank fire from the 12.8 cm guns two kilometers away on the Zoo tower”

And mayby… just little change that we might have enough bombardment in this game already… after finaly devs balanced mortar and artillery we dont need another problem in our face
