So I donated my US$100 and for my 13,500 GE… and bought Premium.
So far so good - get 2 extra squads - yay… but wait - I can buy more squads in a battle for 490GE each?? Is this just for 1 battle or forever?? I’ll see shortly - purchased a couple more so I have 8 in my lineup right now!
It does spread the expl packs out a lot more than they used to be, and uses up all the molotovs… used to have 12 unused! Not any more! Also short on reserve rifles suddenly…
Then trained up my Lvl 1 squads to about 10 or 11 each - got some stars for the specialist, added a few members, bought most of the XP, added a sniper or an engineer here and there.
OK - first game - Assault, pretty easy - only used 3 squads anyway, but all 8 still showing up in list… this is way OP IMO…
But also - 5.5k xp for a simple assault - nothing flash - that +100% xp - wahoo…!!!
And this cheeky little number - if you’re in a hurry which are you going to automatically click on???
Those are permanent. Like WT crew slots. Though I don’t know if the extra ones bought with GE will disappear after your premium runs out. If they do that’s some shit
Yeah we won’t know for a while - presumably premium gets reset on 8th, so everything goes back to newbie-normal and we have to make those decisions again.
So - couple more games - nothing exciting except XP rate through the roof and soldiers getting perks a lot faster, plus more weapon and personnel drops.
And little opportunities here and there to spend money…
A couple of little micro transactions that will probably get a lot of money over time:
1/ buying your way to the next perk level, and
2/ buying instant academy results
For me these have come up with quite small numbers - 5 GE for the perk, 25 GE for Academy (L2’s to become L3) - I can see people forking out for this sort of thing a lot - very low $ value but quite high game return… a good little constant income trickle.
Are these extra spaces for squads in rotation different for infantry and vehicles? Having an option to keep specialist squads in reserve and use according to situation definitely changes a lot. Unlike skipping levels or speeding up training, I am planning to use this feature.
No, because a premium player can bring in a plane, a tank, multiple close range squads, multiple long range squads, flamethrowers for area denial, and mortars and be prepared for literally anything meanwhile the average player gets one close range, one long range, one specialty, and a plane or tank. This gives a premium player a massive advantage
If I go into a match taking 2 SMG squads and 1 LMG squad, as those are what I enjoy playing the most. BUT, the match is flooded with enemy TANKS, so I need an AT infantry squad. But since I did not pay for this feature, I do not have the option for this spare squad. You do. And maybe we end up playing on defense on invasion. Then I want an engineer squad, to build more fortifications. Or I need snipers against the MG nests, or I need mortars to bombard a point. I cannot physically bring all types of soldiers without this pay to win feature.
So what you’re saying is that you know its better to have more slots and it gives you an advantage? Okay thanks for the input that it is indeed pay to win. Have a nice day.
Most of us here have some advantage in a form of premium squads. We have to buy them even if we don’t need an advantage. Similarly, I don’t need an advantage in number of squads but I want tactical flexibility which will make the game more interesting to me. I’d prefer that it will be acceptable for free in some form, but if it is not I will use it anyway.
This game is not a competition to me but experience. If you need to win more often, it is enough to just select more popular side. It will outweighs all advantages you can buy.
I’ve bought all four founders packs, they are collectibles to me. Practically they can give a quicker and nicer start, but are not all that useful beyond that. They have obvious advantages and disadvantages. Many argue you will have to retire them soon enough anyway to train regular squads.
Squad slots are different and offer more interesting game. It is an advantage, but more a convenience. I would prefer they become available to everybody, say, every 10 levels but I am not against them being a part of Premium (which I do not plan to use). If they are sold separately for reasonable price, they do not make the game pay 2 win to me.
I am more concerned about omnipresent and annoying buttons facilitating your progress. Seems too unrestricted comparing to some other free2plays. Then again, who cares? A concept of defeating another player is strange to me. We are all mostly defeating bots. And being “defeated” by factors beyond our control, like bombs.
They offer the highest possible DPS and overall raw power to contest points with. Sure they lack in flexibility, but they make up for that with raw stats. Just the fact that they can bring 3 more grenades than any other squad is a strong + for the SMG premiums. And as they are also already fully trained, you don’t have to train other squads to have a maxed out set of soldiers.
Convenience or not, they really should not be limited to paying only because of said advantage. You will either lack the ability to counter stuff, or lack the raw DPS to contest points with, when limited to 3 squads only. This also makes the game less about building your perfect squad combination, and more about countering whatever the enemy field as you get to bring all of your what is supposed to be options. To be honest, I hope they will not return in OBT at all, as they will take away from the squad concept as a whole.
No matter how expensive they are, if they are only given out through payment, they are P2W.
“The game is pay to win, but ‘don’t worry’ the P2W stuff isn’t too expensive” isn’t much better than “The game is pay to win”
The new premium LMG squads are actually the best for bots as the best weapon for them to use is the LMG. This was tested a while ago. And those bots still benefit from the harder to kill aspects of the premium squads, giving the player to who those bots belong more time to react and counter you.
