Building perfect squad combination through long painful development of specialist squads which are useful for a single task of perfecting squad class (and rarely weapon) and then can be dismissed forever does not look good to me.
In fact, it does not look good to devs either considering coming changes to squad composition. The only thing that surprises me is apparent absense of limits to extra slots.
As of purity of not being pay2win in smallest aspects, it is hardly devs goal.
The game offers for free some interesting experience and does not obviously or heavily discriminate against those who do not pay. If game feels fair and interesting some of us will spend some money on it. If impression will be that the game is too greedy and pay2win, it will die. It is a real danger but I don’t think we are there yet.
If building your perfect squad combo isn’t an end goal, why have squad customization a thing to begin with? Other than to artificially nerf the strength of new squads and force them through a “stock grind”?
Double perk capacity on premium soldiers
3+ months of advantage in terms of progression thanks to premium soldiers, including a massive 35% health advantage
Added flexibility with squad slots
Premium guns can be direct upgrades from free ones
I really cannot agree with your statement.
We are already there for a lot of players. Just look at all the hate threads against premium squads (that are no longer active because most people who tried to get them changed gave up and left), or the new monetization systems.
That’s at the top level - it’s about $6 to buy level 6 - so you can probably get the first 4-5 campaign levels for about $10-15 total, and then double XP with a wide variety of squads after that…double-double-xp with your premium too??
When building perfect squad combo we have to go through training of non perfect squads. By itself it is fine and interesting. But why should these squads be so obviously useless? Who needs a squad of four radio operators or four flamethrowers or mortars and not much else?
OK, I am using radio operators, but why not add to the composition a couple of assaulters and snipers or whatever I prefer? Then I get a new toy to play, say anti-tank squad. I don’ need four of them and I want to add newly trained radioman, an assaulter etc.
Currently many squads have a place for some class which will be discovered many levels later. Why not to use something we already researched?
Basically it seems what devs want to use after start of OBT.
Yeah the squad system is pretty silly - IRL you’d have detachments of various specialists with an infantry squad - reckon that would be a better way to go… base your team around an infantry platoon with some detachements.
Something I’ve noticed - in the last day since getting premium I’ve had “100% extra ammo for main weapon” as a perk option exactly ONCE… and I’ve upgraded a lot of soldiers!
And here comes another advantage for paying players - they can always reroll given perks to get the new set. Of course, the price for that aspect is low (32 Gold), but it is the part of predatory monetisation model where you are supposed to pay if you want to have full satisfaction.
Not all squads are obviously useless. But I do agree they should be reworked to take this into account. And the announcement they made a while back says they are doing so for OBT.
Because each squad is intended to have a niche, to force a choice of what you want. Your P2W squad slots completely invalidate that choice.
Why force yourself to have the choice between being able to handle tanks with Bombers, or to be able to clear a point with Assaulters, if you can pay to have both? Normal players don’t get to do that.
Honestly sometimes I think I think more about this game’s core design than the developers themselves.
This must be a myth. I played a year of WT with only 74 days of premium and now i have premium since Christmas sale and I don’t see any difference in RNG. If there is something then I rather believe in tweaks to keep everyone at about 50% winning and losing, but not sure. Most of the time, when something is weird it’s either ping, packet loss or just me forgetting to set up gun convergence for planes or using the wrong ammunition.
