Fedorov (Water Cooled): A Possible Madsen Alternative?

image

This is my first post discussing potential alternatives to the Madsen for a BR 2 Tech Tree MG. The first, which sacrifices service use for function and differing role, is this particular variant of the Fedorov Avtomat/MG. This is a 1922-1924 variant specifically designed for mounting onto shielded and wheeled Heavy MG mounts. This particular weapon features a water-cooled barrel (unlike the Lewis-style barrel shroud of the “Fedorov MG” premium MG), and a pistol grip.

This MG, while having the ergonomic advantages of the Fedorov (bottom-mounted magazine, unobstructed sights), it was much heavier. It could also possibly follow the same convention as the Type 11 MG, dealing only 12.3 damage upgraded (though the Breda Mod.30 is also chambered in 6.5mm, with 13.2 damage). Other important MG stats such as aim speed, recoil control, sprint factor and many more should be in line with other BR 2 MGs to ensure it’s balance, despite being based on the Fedorov Avtomat platform.

Stats:
Damage: 12.3 or 13.2
Magazine Capacity: 25 Rounds
Rate of Fire: 600 (660)

Would you like to see the Fedorov (Water Cooled) added to the game?

Yes, maybe same mechanic as m1919a6

The ‘‘obrez’’ version of the water cooled Fedorov would be an interesting BR IV assaulter’s weapon.

There’s one in the picture with a stock, so maybe it’s not needed?

Isnt that the M1919A4?

When is that gonna be fix so we can hip-fire it? Like how it was designed for in real life, and in the weapons description?

Lol. There would be no one stupid enough to use such weapon with that gimmick mechanic… not even over the madsen.

Speaking of which, they need to take the prone/mount mechanic off the br4 one. And then bump the A6’s rpm to 600 (rather if that’s the base or upgraded rpm).

I would have rather they added a M1919 with a 50 round belt at BR 3 instead of the BR 4 variant with 100 rounds and bipod mechanic. The AI struggle to use the bipod.

And the lewis gun for the British.

Yeah Lewis gun being an event weapon and not TT is criminal. Was there another variant that can be added to the TT? Were they all chambered on .303?

Pretty sure @OggeKing said there’s a version we can use. And the event one doesn’t have a bipod or handle like the soviet one. So we could still get the 303. Added to the TT with a bipod, with the event one better design for hip firing?

Or maybe an extended magazine version at BR 4? I think there was a 97 round drum.

There is a option to have a 97 mag for the lewis gun in BFV. But we should still get a br 3 version

There is also this version of the water-cooled Fedorov, which features a bipod. This may be more desirable, but looks a lot more similar to the “Fedorov MG” in-game.

Here’s the Fedorov MG, for contrast/comparison:

Indeed there is.

In official service, there was ever only something called the “Lewis Mk I”, however they do appear in two distinct patterns that collectors and firearms researchers have come to call “Lewis Mk I” and “Lewis Mk I*”.

Internally, they’re identical. Externally, one has a service-modified buttstock. A minor change really, just light reinforcements, and a hole to fit a oil bottle. That’s it, unmodified and modified guns coexisted within British service.

It currently exists in game as the Soviet premium (depicting a gun rechambered for Russian rimmed ammunition). It would be a trivial matter to add it to the Allied tech tree as well (at worst, the ammunition it shoots has to be remodeled to .303 British, which is hardly a difficult feat).

As far as I am aware, only aircraft Lewis guns used the 97 round drums in Commonwealth service - they had the sights compatible for it, a regular Mk I Lewis’ sights would bee too short for it.

But, those aircraft guns were pressed into service, too… especially by the Home Guard.

Here's a two-man Home Guard gun-team with such a Lewis conversion (Lewis Mk III/III*)

Lewis

By all rights, the tech tree slot should go for a regular Army pattern Lewis, before anything else…

As for the suggestion, I’d like to vote “yes”, and not have to choose a implementation avenue… because I don’t really mind how it’s added…

I checked the suggestion and nobody voted against it and it still yet to be implemented XD

50 votes, 100% approval.

I wonder what other suggestions can boast the same feat…
