試製ジテ弾 / Experimental Ji-Te AT grenade launched from the Type 97 AT rifle - A domestic BR4 weapon for Japan

Japan currently lacks a BR4 anti tank weapon that is domestic (it’s so stupid Japan and the US get an ofenrohr), so today I present the experimental Ji-Te anti-tank grenade. This might sound like a normal grenade you would throw, but it’s a HEAT grenade that’s launched by a gun, although not one of those fired from a normal, weak rifle. No, this one is fired from the 20mm Type 97 semi-automatic anti tank gun, the massive 20mm blanks propelling the grenade which was inserted into the barrel, and the penetration values are estimated to be 200 millimeters of penetration. This would basically be a much beefed up GrB. 39 or AT rifle grenade launcher in practice that has the option to use the main AT rifle as well as the grenade. Not that much is known about this weapon except for some pictures, but that definitely hasn’t stopped the devs before, and especially since Japan’s TT already relies on things with dubious documentation or existance, there should be no problem adding this.

(the Japanese text translates to “experimental/trial production munition Ji Te”)

Should the Ji-Te grenade (with a type 97 AT rifle) be added to the Japanese TT?

Only I call be on 200mm of pen that’s 8 inches of armor or heavy cruiser ground, for one the range would be almost as horrible as accuracy

200mm of penetration is fine for this kind of weapon. It’s a grenade launcher, not a rocket launcher. The projectile wouldn’t go that far and have a noticeable drop to it compared to an ofenrohr

Would be a great BRIII AT or Japs

yes

Information about this ammunition is basically no where to be find. Could you share any source claim that it has 200mm penetration?
As far as I know, Japan’s HEAT technology was notably underdeveloped during WWII. And they were heavily reliant on German guidance.

According to the image, the diameter of this munition is similar to that of the German Panzerfaust; however, its design is clearly flawed. The optimal cone angle for a shaped charge liner is between 40 and 60 degrees, whereas the cone angle of this Japanese munition is nearly 90 degrees. Furthermore, its size is considerably small, which significantly reduces the length and velocity of metal jet.
Consequently, without concrete historical data to support otherwise, I don’t believe it is capable of achieving penetration beyond 140 mm.

The Japanese grenade was 180 mm in diameter; with dimensions like that, a penetration of 200 mm seems entirely realistic. Furthermore, Japanese shaped-charge grenades had quite respectable armor penetration. For instance, while Japanese documents claim that the 30 mm grenade for the Type 2 grenade launcher penetrates 40 mm of armor, Allied test data showed that the grenade penetrates nearly 63.5 mm of armor. The projectile for the Type 5 launcher penetrates 100 mm at strike angles from 45 to 90 degrees, meaning that at normal impact, it penetrates 140 mm of armor. The 70 mm projectile for the Type 4 launcher penetrates 80 mm at angles from 60 to 90 degrees, and 100 mm at normal. These are highly respectable figures.

Then my question is, what is the earliest source of 200mm penetration?

There is no source for this penetration figure; it is merely an assumption put forward by Killerwolf1024 a long time ago.

As I understand it, this anti-tank rifle will be in the Battle Pass.

So this thing is bigger then Panzerfaust 100 that is 149 mm ?

its really a shame its not the Japanese native anti tank weapon in the TT …

So approximately 60 mm difference in penetration is The problem. Nice.

I would much rather have some random prototype with a made-up penetration of 250 mm than having Ofenrohr in the Asian theater.
But I guess that’s only me.

The problem is they gonna put it in battle pass not replace the copied German stuff in the Japanese TT to make it more unique :frowning:

I have already forwarded the suggestions for this gun to be in the tech tree
