Enlisted really needs a new mode

Hello Darkflow/Gaijin and everyone.

I have been playing Enlisted for more than 600 hours, and I honestly think the game does WW2 gameplay very well. A lot of people complain about the AI squads, but personally I see them as one of Enlisted biggest strengths. They really show how fragile human life was in large scale battles, especially on the Eastern Front. Entire squads wiped out in seconds, a real meat grinder. Hell Let Loose and Battlefield do not really capture this feeling, since they follow a more traditional FPS style.

So why am I saying all this. Because despite its strengths, Enlisted is missing something important. Depth in pacing. Right now the game constantly forces you to attack. You push and you die, you respawn, and you repeat. There is barely any time to breathe. After a while it feels overwhelming and exhausting, this is where Enlisted is weaker than games like Hell Let Loose, Medal of Honor. The battles are too dense and too fast. And honestly, WW2 was not just nonstop fighting every single minute.

Enlisted has many beautiful maps. The beaches of Normandy, the Pacific jungle, the harsh Tunisia desert, the gloomy atmosphere of the Eastern Front. I want moments where I can march with my squad, look around, and feel the calm before the storm. Even just a fleeting peace. Walking with teammates, feeling the wind on the beach, before the real fighting starts. The game already has amazing environments, but most modes turn every map into another Stalingrad/Rzhev meat grinder.

That is why I want to suggest something for future updates, maybe in 2026. I know the Enlisted team is not very large, and making big new content is hard. So instead of building everything from scratch, why not add a Night Operations mode? You could reuse existing maps, make them darker, adjust the weather, add more spawn locations, slow the pace down. If you are worried about players abusing gamma settings, the night does not have to be pitch black. Bright moonlight, street lights, fires and burning objects. Night can still be readable and atmospheric.

Respawn timers could be longer, so players have to be more careful with their squads. Losing a tank or aircraft should cost more manpower, to prevent constant spam and limit their numbers. The win condition could be simple, like a team deathmatch style system where both teams start with 1000 manpower.

This would break the monotony of Invasion, Confrontation, Assault. It would also give players a break from constant daytime lighting. I still remember when the Burma campaign had a twilight setting around 17-18 o’clock. I was genuinely excited to play it, and then it was removed in later updates. I really miss that feeling. Thank you for reading. I truly hope Enlisted can move away from nonstop, overwhelming battles and offer more variety in how matches feel. More pacing diversity would make an already good game even better.

Looking at these images, don’t you want to fight slowly and truly take them in?

  • Yes, a slower paced Night Operations mode would be great, as long as gamma settings are handled properly to prevent abuse.
  • Maybe, it depends on how it is implemented, especially if it can create those calm moments before the storm.
  • No, I would prefer a different type of game mode.
  • Of course not, I enjoy the brutal meat grinder style gameplay!

Big Action mode…?

Though, I’ve been interested in the concept of dawn/dusk battles for a while now… Night battles would be very hard to implement, but low-light conditions not so much (we already have blizards and thunder storms, after all).

I don’t like a game mode that decreases visibility as I already have a rlly hard time picking out people at range esp on berlin

Well, that is exactly why I want the lighting to be balanced, especially moonlight and street lights. Reworking existing assets and adding more day/night variety feels much more achievable right now. I really do not want to fight in daylight all the time.

make a “fair fight” event with night/dusk and then give us stg 44 vampir along with the m1 carbine infrared

I think there needs to be a more grounded mode.

I was a massive player of heroes and generals and war mode was their solution to giving a more “hardcore grounded experience”.

A real time strategy map overlaid the front, and the maps corresponded to the content. Battles would occur when two factions faced off against each other and so forth. There were resources, commanded by real generals. Sure, we had unbalanced maps but holding out created some cool moments.

I do totally agree, enlisted is missing something. I personally think a new mode which makes the battles mean something!

Also, sorry to come back again, but in the war thunder infantry battles, there is a restriction to only be able to spawn as a tank once. Maybe this could be applied to planes and tanks to stop them being spammed

Making it an event could also be a good move. If players enjoy it, it could later be turned into a full game mode.

Np, I like seeing different ideas and comments, it helps the devs notice the topic more. War mode would fit Enlisted squad gameplay too well, you know. Wish we could have something like that in game.

Judging from the performance of active matter, if Enlisted updates the relevant material update or for players of medium to high graphics quality, it can be seen that the gaijin engine is already capable of achieving such a feeling and lighting effects for night battles.

Bring back armoured train escort and add it to different campaigns like Tunisia and Bulge ect.

Totally agree, a War Mode would give players something worth coming back to / fighting for. I loved the war mode for Heroes and Generals, you should check it out!

From a dev perspective, they can even make money of this from more transactions. H&G devs defo did. From selling squads, resources etc

I posted it here for more info:

I’ve mentioned this in the past here as it is an awesome idea but with all the comments thought everyone hated the idea…glad to see people on board…it would be fun!

Some maps definitely couldn’t handle night mode…but towns with lights and torches would be fun.

they should get rid of the standard queue and just make big action the standard game mode.

separate it into Big Action Pacific Big Action Western Front and Big Action Eastern Front.

yes, since the current game modes, especially invasion and confrontation, tend to enforce a small battle zone which increases the likelihood of getting killed, and makes the action too explosive, hard to play, beneficial to vehicle faming kills, cramped and unfun.

The size of the maps need to be taken better advantage of in the game modes.

problem would be balancing / seal clubbing. However, a war mode War Mode - could solve this
