I always thought ARs are better than SMGs because they are more universal. Sth like SMG + rifle hybrid (oversimplification).

That too. There’s a reason a lot of countries are still transitioning away from specialty rifles into the AR platform. It’s just convenient. Truly an everyman’s rifle and why you need at least 3 uppers buried in your back yard at any given time.
