Captured Weapons - Revamping and removing copy/paste

Currently in game, many feel as though captured weapons are lazy copy/pastes from one tech tree to another just so X Nation has an answer for Y Nation’s thing. I kinda disagree but that is besides the point.

So what to do about it?
Well, what if instead of relying on copy/pastes for captured weapons they are instead something one can unlock? By playing the nation of the item desired.
What do I mean and how does it work?
Simple. For example, the USSR captured a lot of panzerfausts during the war and used a lot of them for anti-tank instead of developing their own, at least as far as I know.
So with this new revamping, once you unlock panzerfausts in the Axis techtree, They would then become available for purchase with silver by the USSR army when you have completed that tier of research in the USSR techtree (Namely Tier 3 for the 60 and Tier 4 for the 100) however because these are CAPTURED weapons, they have an increased silver cost for these other nations as they’re not making them themselves.
So let’s say someone wants to equip their Axis with some Browning Auto-5’s, they need to have researched the weapon in the Allies tech Tree and have completed Tier 2 of the Axis techtree and can then purchase Browning Auto-5’s for double the silver cost for their Axis Troops. If they want to upgrade them, then the appropriate upgrade needs to be unlocked by the appropriate ALLIES squad. Again also costing more silver for the Axis side.

This removes copy/paste from techtrees and gives players an incentive to diversify what nations they play. (I personally haven’t played anything other than Germany.)
It would be up to the devs which weapons they allow as captured weapons. After all the goal is not to give every nation every weapon but to allow the nations that did use particular weapons captured from enemy armies. To distinguish them it could also be possible that the nation using them uses their captured designation (although that might just be Germany that did that.)

i thought this was going to be rage bate of remove compy paste from game, but its not just reducing clutter in the tech tree. though i think some weapons should be exempt
like the g41/43
garand
bar
fg42ect
i dont need to see nazis with garands but some m1 carbines would be tight if you know you know

Like I said it’s about the nations that used actual captured weapons not giving every nation every gun.
So like the FG 42 wouldn’t because it was never made in enough numbers that there were enough captured to be put into enemy supply.
And for the likes of the G43, Garand, and BAR… Many guns were made so getting those was easy but securing supply off ammo as opposed to getting more of your own meant it did not make logistical sense to adopt them.

Again, it would be the devs call on which weapons are allowed by this system.

not an argument just clarification i like the idea some copy paste help the panzer faust use, the at soldier and at rockets are not something you can limit to one faction. there are few good choices that would not be prototypes which we dont want to flood the tt with. captured in large amounts it makes sense.

but i likt the idea it allows more content without more work, i approve

Germans used a lot of SVTs and PPSH, i hope they give us a event squad with Russian volunteers or Finnish squad with Suomis and SVTs

Why not make it so that you have to actually CAPTURE the weapon to unlock it? You can already pick up enemy weapons, how about for any weapon designated a “captured weapon” instead of unlocking it via research points you have to pick it up in battle from a dead enemy and get x amount of kills with it?

You can still show it in the research tree so people know which weapons are “capturable” and have a kill count to show you how close you are to unlocking it.

And then yes, agree with above, they should cost more silver than normal weapons after they’re unlocked since they’re meant to be rare.

You realize Captured Weapon doesn’t mean Battlefield Loot, right?
When the Germans, Russians, or Allies took a factory they then could produce these Captured Weapons, or at least the ammunition for them.
Then also the problem exists that soldiers, including AT squads, only drop their primary, so how would you get Panzerfausts? Or Pistols?

Well when they add capturing weapons factories (or territory generally) then that would make sense. Since they won’t ever, then why not at least add some flavor to it, instead of just another research option in the tech tree?

I see where you’re trying to go, but gameplay it feels too… obtuse. What if no one is using the weapon you want? What if they drop it but no ammo? How many matches would it take? You then have to meet the above requirements per match.

And it would still mean players would mono-army instead of diversifying their play.
The idea is like “Hey, you completed the Axis techtree, did you know there’s two more techtrees you can get stuff for your Axis army from?” So then they go try the USSR or the Allies, it keeps the matchmaking pool a little healthier as people aren’t solely doing the flavour of the patch.

I guess. My point is they shouldn’t just be “another unlock” like everything else, because they’re not. They should be special items for flavor that you should have to do something special to obtain. If you pick one up and it’s empty, too bad, better luck next time. Sometimes i have a BP task of “capture a point” and 5 matches in a row I’m on defense :person_shrugging:. Not everything has to be available for everyone all the time.

Custom Games. You can go stomp bots and get your BP tasks done there, you chose to roll the dice. It was available to you all along even if you didn’t avail yourself of it.

Yeah, that’s a bit beside the point, but sure.
