The Type 4 rifle is the only tech tree rifle for Japan at BR3, and it has always been used as the main rifle at that BR. However, its stats are now outdated and need to be adjusted.
Yeah it has that 30% recoil control, so effective recoil is only 49/19 — best in class. But that doesn’t fix the dispersion when you fire faster. You still have to pace your shots to stay accurate. Plus, it has the slowest bullet velocity and the slowest reload. Hitting moving targets at range is a pain. Stripper clips are slower than en bloc clips or magazines, and the stripper clip on this rifle feels ancient compared to enbloc or mag reloads. And with only 14.9 damage, you can’t even one tap a Soviet with body armor up close. That’s just not good enough.
Germany and the Allies each have two tech tree semi automatic rifles, giving players the freedom to choose based on their preference. The Soviet Union, as everyone knows, has the strongest BR3 semi auto in the game. Japan stands alone as the exception, lacking a comparable option.
Since it uses the 7.7×58mm Arisaka (same as the Type 99), its damage should be higher than the .30-06 Springfield.
If you play Japan BR3 often, you know you face the Soviets way more than the Allies. Soviet body armor increases the BTK from 1 to 2. So here’s what I suggest: the Type 4’s damage should be adjusted to 15.3, its one stripper clip reload be adjusted to 0.8s, and its single round reload be adjusted to 0.45s. That would the full reload to about 3.7s, and make the Type 4 way more comfortable to use.

What aspects of the Type 4 rifle should be buffed?
I just made it to BR3 Japan last week and upgraded all of my soldiers from the Type 38 to Type 4. While I appreciate the larger magazine and fire rate, it’s difficult to actually take advantage of the increased rate of fire because of the dispersion. I find that I get about as many kills per second with the Type 38 because it’s deadly accurate. I wouldn’t mind seeing a small damage increase to make sure that mid-ranged shots get a kill rather than knocking the enemy down and needing a second shot.
I think there’s also some room for other rifles in BR3-4 for Japan. We should add the Type Otsu with 10 round magazine to the tech tree to give Japan some diversity. I would also love to see a tech tree version of the Type Ko and/or Type Hei (10) rifle.
The G41 definitely needs a buff as well. I just upgraded to BR3 Axis and kept Mannlichers as my main rifle after testing the G41 out in the range. I fell asleep while waiting for it to reload.
not gonna lie i think its totally valid to use the arisaka 38 all the way until br5
though if you happen to get your hands on a 10rnd hei rifle or the 15rnd hino rifle, those are good options at br3 because at least they reload faster with their magazine
I’m not expecting to instantly outright kill an enemy with this weapon, but it should take no more than two shots to the chest. I definitely support this, there’s plenty of weapons in the game that need balance changes when it comes to increasing damage and increasing reload speed. This being one of them that needs both, just like the g41 and its reload and dispersion. Stripper clip fed weapons that are semi-auto should all follow the M1 garand as a standard. Even if you have to increase the reload by 0.1 or 0.2 seconds just to compensate for the extra two rounds in the magazine. This right here would fix a mass majority of underperforming weaponry.
To be fair the Type 4 rifle has one thing that not many notice which is it’s damage drop off is way higher than other semi auto too. as u can see the SVT 38 has more damage than than Type 4 at longer distance too compared to it’s 10m damage
