History
The Bendix-Hyde Light Rifle was one of many submissions in the first Light Rifle trials in May 1941, which eventually led to the adoption of the M1 Carbine from Winchester’s design. This first trial had a requirement for full-auto firing capabilities, meaning a few of the weapons could arguably considered as assault rifles. The Bendix-Hyde Light Rifle prototype from 1941 was one of these weapons, with options of 5, 10, and 20 round magazines.
Tech Tree, Event, or Premium?
I personally would like to see Assault Rifle options included into the tech trees of all nations where there are appropriate options for lower BRs. This post, as well as a couple of future ones, will focus on the USA tree, but there are certainly options for the other tech trees, and this suggestion is not intended to exist in a vacuum (AKA I don’t have USA bias. I want more ARs for all trees as sidegrades for SMGs).

Edit - Removed Bayonet from “Attachments” (originally copy-pasted from the M1923 suggestion).
It really should be a mag fed gun for br4. I’m nore concerned with u.s. getting a proper br4 fighter right now than a semi auto. Johnson/garand get by okay for br4 right now
I’m not into vehicles, so I can’t really comment on that. But it would be nice if Japan and the Allies would have proper BR IV’s. Including a not German made AT Launcher.
watching a johnson reload two stripper clips in 2 second time of the g43 would just be silly
buff to damage meaningless, buff to accuracy meaningless, buff to rate of fire meaningless, magazine size increase impossible, bayonet who cares unless it gets a 2.5 second reload time which again would be silly. sorry we need the prototype johnson rifle with a ten round mag
You’re small brained for hating on cool things, You can have an opinion but enlisted has never been a realistic game if you want to play a game that’s realistic than play Hell Let Loose or something.
People seem to forget that “prototypes” are significant to ww2 and has everything to do with the time period. I find it really cool to be able to use equipment that was extremely rare or just a concept brought to life via the game. Just because a bunch of something wasn’t made doesn’t mean it’s not ww2 related. For the people who don’t like it though, you still have the option to use the standard equipment. You shouldn’t try to gate keep the rest of us who do enjoy it, especially since the game has already set the expectation.
It goes beyond the scope of this suggestion, but I also believe Darkflow could create a game mode, queue etc. that is based around service weapons only, so the player has the choice to pick which they prefer. I think it’s one of the few instances where potentially splitting the playerbase can work, since each mode would likely have reasonable populations of dedicated players. This only works, of course, so long as there is also more developer man-hours spent on expanding content in terms of new maps, new equipment, and new events.
Like I mentioned, it would offer two definitive options that have their own interests in video games. A more historically accurate mode would bring in players from Hell Let Loose, Hearts of Iron etc, so long as:
“there is also more developer man-hours spent on expanding content in terms of new maps, new equipment, and new events.”
Hell let loose is more of a sim. Enlisted is arcade. Don’t see that game mode specifically taking players from those types of games. I would much rather a hardcore mode than a historical mode here. That would open the game to more kinds of players. Without a hardcore mode, and realistic forms of balance it would be a shit show to just have “HA” mode. It would be a complete nazi fantasy without those other elements
