BM-13N Katyusha as event/tech tree vehicle

Few vehicles symbolize the Soviet victory as powerfully as the Katyusha rocket launcher, a weapon that became a legendary fixture of the Eastern Front. Adding the BM-13 as a playable vehicle in Enlisted would provide a unique experience and iconic value to the game.

Enlisted already features Katyushas as props on Moscow maps but they are not usable:

I believe it would be a waste not to add such as iconic vehicle to Enlisted, given the following:

  • Katyusha is one of the most legendary Soviet fighting vehicles of WW2 (about 7000 made)
  • it is fully functional in War Thunder
  • it wouldn’t be OP – no armor at all, any tank/plane/sniper/counter artillery can deal with it
  • its ability to spam rockets could be contained by prolonged resupply timer
  • taking it over an actual tank wouldn’t provide much efficiency but a definite cool factor
  • it is present and/or usable in other WW2 games but not in Enlisted
  • it looks and sounds amazing

Poll 1 – port Katyusha from War Thunder?

  • Yes, add Katyusha as a tech tree vehicle
  • Yes, add Katyusha as an event vehicle
  • No, don’t add Katyusha

Poll 2 – which BR should be assigned to Katyusha?

The closest counterpart to Katyusha would be the German Panzerwerfer 42 (which is currently BR4 but many players are calling for it to be downtiered to BR3 or even BR2).

Here is a comparison table between the two vehicles:

Feature BM-13N “Katyusha” Panzerwerfer 42
Explosive Filler 4.9 kg TNT 2.5 kg TNT
Salvo Count 16 Rails (Immediate) 10 Tubes + 10 Stored (Reload required)
Armor None (Structural Steel) 8-10 mm (Bulletproof)
Crew Count 2 (WT), 5-7 (IRL) 3 (Enlisted), 4 (IRL)
Mobility Truck Half-track
Self-Defense None Mounted MG42
  • BR 1
  • BR 2
  • BR 3
  • BR 4
  • BR 5

Tank Katyusha is funny - 1 game in Stalingrad I sat in a tall building with an ATR and sniped his ammo - instant blow up from hitting 1 rocket.

Then he respawned a little later… happened 3 or 4 times total - dunno if he ever figured out what was happening!!

But at least the T-60 version is usable with 3 degrees available depression, so it can shoot horizontally.

The truck mounted version cannot do so - it has minimum elevation of 8 degrees - that’s PLUS 8 degrees - in WT it has a totally false adjustable suspension that never existed, and gets a minimum range of 250m with that.

Without the warthunderhammer suspension I don’t know what the minimum range would be - several hundred meters at a guess

And it can only shoot 10 degrees either side of straight ahead.

It’s too iconic to be premium or some event prize

I votes yes, but how is it to be used on Enlisted maps?

Realistically, it was inaccurate artillery meant to be used at ranges upwards of several kilometers en masse.

Something can probably be worked out for Enlisted, but it definitely won’t be the way it was used historically.

What is sad, though, is that the Soviet rocket radiomen don’t even get Katyusha strikes (they get M82s, which are quite a bit weaker, I believe).

It would be barely usable. The current Soviet rocket tank is already one of the weakest ground vehicles. And Katyusha would be straight up worse.

There’s no place for this vehicle in the game. Anyone using it would only sabotage his own team.
Ground vehicle that is completely useless against other vehicles and mediocre against infantry is equivalent to planes with no CAS capability.

So if you want truck with rocket, they should at least add Andryusha (BM-31) instead of Katyusha. As it would at least be somewhat useful against other vehicle. (Still a pretty underwhelming gimmick vehicle, but at least not so completely bad)

Katyusha is hte generic term for all the Soviet rockets. The BM-13 was the first vehicle mounted launcher, but the 82 and 310mm vehicle mounted rockets are also correctly referred to as Katyusha

If indirect artillery was a new radio squad option, to fire a salvo of rockets, with a high cool down. They could use the aiming system of Big Action but make sure rocket artillery could be taken out and not be an option

BR3 if high damage and coverage

but with one condition: give Katyusha 5 crew members so that her destruction brings more points :smiling_imp::smiling_imp:

uh i think it would probabaly be used the same as the calliope or M26 T99 just without the cannon

it would be too useless, it would only be applicable on a few maps, and then because of the damn low mobility it would be difficult to get at least some kind of firing position on it.

In addition, you can already use it in the game, you just need a squad of radio operators with the skill of calling an MLRS strike.

No one is forcing you to use it

Hopefully, none of my teammates will use it if they add it

Don’t worry, if we’re on the same team I won’t only take Katyusha to battle, but also GAZ-MM (72K)

No, but you you are trying to force something useless into the game in place of something that might be actually useful or an improvement.

If it came about I would suggest that YOU be forced to use it - it should be permanently in slot 1 of your force at all BR’s.

It’s too bad that ALL factions didn’t have something similar…seems like a great way to deal with grey-zoning tanks. It’s weird how artillery stikes can’t reach the grey zone when it is delivered by howitzers with km’s of range. This would give the game a fun option with a new squad.Grey-zoning should have an out if the planes are in use and ineffective.

I’m not forcing anything in place of something useful.

Merely suggesting one of the most iconic vehicles of WW2.

Not everything has to be meta or more useful than what we have already.

I’ll like to say that I wouldn’t care if it’s a event or TT, but absolutely NOT a premium.
