Idk if its to early to say but think Berlin map is to cramped in to become an short skirmish map with no thougths in to it compared to the others.
You cant barely move your vehicles since there is so much sht everywhere and even if you bump in to something small you get stuck and rly have to struggle to move out.
Not only that your planes are going to struggle asw since you moved in cap points literally in to larger cemented buildings. Sure ive managed to put an 20mm right thru it randomly in to someone but most of the times you have to hope that you catch someone randomly flank on the outside which usually are not happening.
Its not only for the vehicles that struggles not only to drive but also positioning since sometimes you literally spawn with little room to move next to their tank spawn angle as they can just wait for you to move 5m up and they got you aimed in. Its also the infantry that rush in close by as you barely have time to set up since everything is so close to each other.
Im impressed by the town how ever and all the details but from an overall gaming standpoint with everything this layout is the worse so far (And ive been impressed by both Normandy and Moscow)
Might regret this rant later when i get more used to the maps. But idk the game play feels more like an short dlc skirmish mode then an actual assault
they should use more of the city but it is a city and urban combat has been and always will a horrible experience for tankers both irl and in the virtual world
ik its an urban enviroment and its not suitable for tanks. But when tanks even struggle to go over an small obstacle like an simple curb then you can do the math, especially when theres small sht everywhere that makes you barely being able to move. And also barely no room for you to be able to set up ambushes and such since well the layout isnt suited for it since its so narrow. Irl at least you could pick another street which you arent here. Youre just forced in to one narrow path from the start sometimes
I don’t know how the objects in game are modeled, if they’re capable of being destroyed or not, but there are vehicles (cars and trucks) that are burnt out that tanks in Berlin simply cannot go past or shove. I can understand tanks having some trouble pushing other tanks, but a tank versus a car, truck or even trolleybus is no contest: the tank wins.
This issue is very frustrating on Lehrter Bahnhof as you get close to the train terminal. The intersection/courtyard in front of that building is ridiculous to try and navigate.
Devs need to look at some of the smaller vehicles and obstacles and either add the ability to flatten them or at least reposition them within the map to allow more movement.
Or maybe just fix the issues with the particular assets that prevent them from being deformed/flattened. That would resolve the same issues across the other maps in Berlin that have this problem.
Also wished that they made the layout a bit wider and the points a bit further. Heck i even found more space to do things in Birch Grove then this ^^ Its not that bad and im very impressed by the city as an whole but its so narrowed in most of the time that it just puts me off. Had much better experience at Pavlovs house
I actually enjoy some of the areas in Berlin with tanks…the approaches to the Hermann Goering, Ministry Garden and Moat areas allow for some decent tanking. Moltke Bridge can definitely benefit from competent tanking, regardless of attack or defense.
But tanking in Berlin is really more of a mobile base of fire rather than a maneuver element, that’s not even up for debate…and that seems like a waste, at least to me.
The bridge was the one i was ranting about to. Me and another tank just spawned in (defense) and there was just this one narrow road ahead and a tank was sitting with an 85mm to the left of us so coulnt move one bit. Then one tank after another got shot as they moved up. And there was no where i could even go, If i moved ahead 5m i would been dead to.
If there was some paths i could have taken then it would been fine but there wasnt as far as i know ^^
I just wish tanks could traverse easily through debris without it getting stuck in the process. and for the maps itself, i usually avoid getting in a tank when its to cramped like D-day, le bre, wilhemstrasse and train stations both normandy and berlin
They also need to fix all the debris and trees and such. Since you cant shoot thru or next to them so a lot of stuff makes it even harder to set up good tank plays just to be able to get the shot thru
I don’t like certain things of it. Going with a tank sometimes I cannot even take another street and attack the enemy from behind or the sides because of these grey areas you’ll die in and that sucks.
This is another one of those unfortunate design/map decisions that I don’t understand fully.
I’ve seen the exact situation you’re describing impact both the Axis and the Allies. I agree that there need to be more approaches to the battle, but there also needs to be more people who can a) understand that they’re not getting tank support and b) grab a ground attack plane to do some bombing or c) get an engineer up with an AT gun…hell, even an artillery smokescreen can be a game changer on that objective.
Needless to say, on Moltke Bridge you need to tank early and tank often or you get camped on. I agree that it doesn’t promote much fun, and I too question why tanks can’t get more than 1 block at a time to maneuver.
Sadly, I’ve seen (and even participated) in the needless slaughter around that particular objective. I actually got a few 2-for-ones with the 500kg bomb on the Stuka there. People were parking their T34’s alongside each other…and that’s a big no-no.
Berlin got best maps, and higher percentage of fun ones.
Maybe i got bored of playing tanks all the time, and in Normandy planes and tanks dominate so hard most people hate it there. In Berlin at least You got a chance to run to point without getting bombed.
Ye the debris sucks, but it’s on every campaign. Berlin just got less space for tanks so it’s harder to navigate. But so are many craters on beaches in Normandy, it’s hell to drive there too without knowing how to navigate. Play Belin some more and with knowing which spots to avoid it gets better.
yeah i guess i have to give it more time. But idk the layout feels so narrow and rapid thats why i was a bit off on it but that could also be due to the teammates not holding or attacking as they should so you dont get the full experience of it…
The atmosphere how ever is still top notch. This is mostly a rant about the layout
Oh god yea i feel you on this mate i think its something you have to get used to over time. But there are some things that the tank just shouldn’t get get stuck on.
Berlin is different. It cannot honestly be compared to any of the other campaigns.
Most people like the easy play of Normandy and such for vehicles because they can truly sway the course of a battle due to the open nature and power of rockets and grey zone tank fire.
If you want to make progress and win in Berlin, you need to be boots on the ground. And personally speaking, that is a good thing and what makes it balanced.
You can’t just squad wipe at will with Rockets and Bombs.
You can’t just farm from a tank without penalty.
You need all of it working in concert to make progress.
That is why a good majority of people think its the best balanced of all campaigns.
You get in a tank in Berlin, and its just a matter of time before your dead. A plane, sure you can cause some havoc , but you still need the troops on the ground to know what they are doing to win.
I do agree in your other post they have to improve what tanks can move over. It can be frustrating to have my Tiger stopped cold to a small curb.
Beyond that though, its a great campaign. I’ve been enjoying it even more now that I’m almost at the top of the Soviet tree.
in battle for berlin it really shows if you are a good tanker, if you know how to use the routes well and you know how to position yourself, not to mention that it is the campaign in which you must cooperate the most with the infantry, for me Berlin, as an oil tanker, it is not a problem, it is simply a place where the best tankers will really stand out
I’ve decided to only use tanks in certain areas because they’re pointless in the tank graveyard. Besides that I actually hate the open areas of Berlin because the Russian team spams artillery against defenders.
