Berdan Pistols were a little-known group of experimental handguns designed by Hiram Berdan alongside his better-known rifles. Two principal variants were developed according to the mechanisms of the Berdan No. 1 and No. 2 rifles, and the designs were reportedly offered to the Russian government. They were not adopted, largely because their loading system was poorly suited to the requirements of a military handgun and could not compete with contemporary revolvers. Experimental examples were nevertheless produced, including a Berdan No. 1–based pistol manufactured by Colt and another associated with the Berdan No. 2 system. Associated .380 ,.320 and shortened .42 cartridges further demonstrate the experimental character of these weapons. Unfortunately, I can only find the information about the shortened .42 cartridges.
Around 1872, a .42-caliber cartridge appeared in the product listings of U.M.C.Co.( Union Metallic Cartridge Company) under the designation “.42 Berdan Patent Central Fire Russian Pistol,” indicating its association with a Russian pistol. However, by 1896, the same firm’s catalog listed the cartridge as “.42 Russian Carbine, (10.67 x 48R) ” suggesting that the cartridge had subsequently been marketed or reclassified for carbine use.

This powerful pistol could be either a Soviet weapon or a American weapon, since we already have the Berdan II rifle in game, adding a Berdan I trapdoor pistol would be an ideal choice.
