Beistegui Modello Militar-34

Hello bajátrsak and fellow forumdwellers,
allow me to present to you the Beistegui MM-34 also known as Royal MM-34, a machine pistol produced by Beistegui Hermanos in Spain and sold on the international market.
The company Beistegui Hermanos still exists though they are no longer producing firearms and have transitioned to bicycles in the 1930s.

In the first half of the 20th century, Spain had the most lenient copy-right laws in the world; this had motivated many small workshops and gunsmiths to operate in Spain and produce unlicensed copies of popular weapons, one such weapon was the Mauser C96 which had unprecedented popularity in the Far-East.
To capitalise on the market, Beistegui copied the Mauser C96 and produced pistols that are externally nearly identical to the original gun, however Beistegui has made a few mechanical improvements to the gun so it’s not just a straight copy.

The MM-34 was introduced in 1934 and is the final irritation of the Beistegui pistols and is a massive improvement compared to the earlier models that had too small magazines and too high rate of fire. The gun features a 20 round detachable magazine which is interchangeable with the Mauser magazines, a retarder to slow down the fire rate, a fire (mode) selector and even a fire rate adjuster, it can also be equipped with a detachable wooden stock.

The design features a barrel with cooling fins which make it look very distinctive and recognisable. Production of the model MM-34 itself was modest due to the Spanish government cracking down on weapon production in 1934, limiting it to export with government oversight (rising tensions, Spanish civil war, it’s worth a topic of its own) almost all MM-34 machine pistols were sold in China, to war lords.

In game relevance:

The most logical faction to add the Beistegui MM-34 to, is the Japanese faction since Japan had captured Mauser “boxguns” and its unlicensed copies in tens of thousands from China and the Japanese faction has a serious shortage of low BR submachine guns.
The Royal MM-34, if added, needs to be added as a submachine gun rather than as a sidearm.
Because MM-34 would be too similar to the Schnellfeuer M712 sidearm (available to Axis) and also because there are other more interesting guns for sidearm roles like the Star Model A Carbine.

unrelated Star A carbine

Star model A carbine, a possible automatic event/BP sidearm for Japan, similar to Yazikov SMG and Colt Schwarz sidearms. I plan to make its own suggestion eventually.

Would you like to see the Beistegui MM-34 added to Japan?

If yes, how would you like to see it added?
  • tech tree
  • premium/event

The Beistegui MM-34 can be equipped with a detachable wooden stock.
with the wooden stock equipped the closest gun would probably be the OVP 1918 but with a little less damage.
Without the woodenstock it would be closest to the Obrez ppsh41 but with slightly better damage and half the magazine capacity.

How should the Beistegui MM-34 be added with or without the stock?
  • Add MM-34 with wooden stock
  • Add MM-34 without the wooden stock
  • Add both variants with AND without wooden stock

Sadly, the fire rate is not known, most automatic Mauser C96 guns have about 900 rpm by default, but since a retarder was added it could be different, so its fire rate can be played around with for game balance or to make it unique.

What should its fire rate be?
  • 900 rpm in full-auto / 600 rpm in slow-auto (probably closest to reality)
  • 750 rpm in full-auto / 500 rpm in slow-auto
  • 600 rpm in full-auto / 400 rpm in slow-auto

Finally what should its BR be?
  • BR1
  • BR2

thank you for your time and attention!

What?
The Japanese factions need submachine guns the least.

With only 1 submachine gun at BR1?
No premiums, no events, nothing just a single tech tree gun…

Besides who else do you want to give this to?

Japan only has one BR1 SMG now that the Type 100 was moved up. (Well Soviets also only have one BR1 smg though…)

However I disagree with the current proposal and particularly with adding weapons imported to china in the Japanese TT.

I would rather have yet another Type 100 but with the old rpm (just like we somehow have in the current event).

its not like we are going to see a Chinese tech tree though.
Besides its commercial gun on the international market, it could fit any faction.

life would be dream.

Luger Artillery, Mauser C96 with stock and other pistol carbines would be the perfect candidates for early BR1 semi auto for all soldiers - because many new players being stuck with bolt actions is problematic.

Bolt actions literally require the most skill to be effective - which means new players should get a weapon type that is more forgiving.

I know this is unrelated to everything, but sentiments like this is why I wished there was a toggle for weapons, so you could put them in different roles where they could/should/would have been used.

Like M2 Carbine toggle between SF-rifle or Assault Rifle, or this thing so you could have it as a BR I SMG or a pistol… Soviet SF-rifles could be really interesting BR II or III MGs too, at least the AVT was intended to be used like a LMG replacement for example…

So what they need?

That is an abomination of an C96, why does the barrel look like that!

Those are cooling fins, they were added to help keep the barrel cool since it had high fire rate so the barrel could easily overheat.
I picked this gun because it is designed for prolonged automatic fire.
And for the record technically this is not a Mauser, but a Mauser copy.

I like the concept of BR1 pistol carbine guns being unique alternatives but I don’t want them to be upgrades over bolties.
Hmm maybe if they were limited to engineer or rifleman…

I’d still like to see Japan develop an automatic pistol, not a submachine gun, for the 1st BR. For the 1st BR, options include the Model 3, the Beretta M38/43, the Tokyo Arsenal 1927 submachine gun with a box magazine, and, if the developers are truly motivated, the Tokyo Arsenal 1928 submachine gun.

In general, captured Mauser C96 pistols were semi-officially accepted into service along with the ZB 26 in 1940 and received the designations Type Mo and Type Chi, respectively.

But it’s clear that the Japanese [soldiers] had little idea how to distinguish Spanish counterfeits from German pistols (even today, they’re not easy to tell apart). Here’s an interesting photo from a Japanese album, for example, showing a captured Astra M901.

So the Japanese formally adopted all copies of the Mauser C96, including their automatic versions.

There is also documentation of the purchase of 225 Astra pistols by the Kwantung Army, but unfortunately it does not say which specific model was purchased.

Who says they are gonna be upgrades? I am talking about weak sidegrates - just so that the impatient noob of today has something to spam shoot with.

You can already buy pistols and use them in BR1 - and those cant compete with rifles…

soo imagine pistol power, but with 20 round magazines for example, justifying them being main weapons.

Nah just add it as a pistol like with the Germans as an event weapon. The Japanese need some more event weapons anyway, getting tired of the same engraved pistol.

Not everything should be in the TT especially when it does not really feel that HA

As I said before, it would be too similar to the Schnellfeuer M712 as a sidearm but would be much more unique as a primary weapon.
Japan could get a Star model A carbine as an automatic sidearm through event or BP instead.

Bet, something to germans…

what? there is nothing in this topic for Germans, the Star A carbine I mentioned is a gun I plan to suggest later for Japan. Besides I suggested 4 weapons for Soviets in the past month, the only person biased here is you.
