I would do that.
I don’t know if it’s animals included. People still eat meat by hunting or letting other people slaughter them. It’s more so a social value on species that would be considered as pets. Dogs still get eaten in cases of poverty in Catholic areas (Venezuela).

Cattle is cattle, and as far as hunting goes, there’s still a good amount of hunters in the US that still consider it distasteful to hunt something without intending to eat it or use the fur.

Well, no, not in the modern era they wouldn’t be consuming them, unless in purely desperate situation where they are completely isolated. However, my point was more so on the fact you said it was a Christian value. Cattle are still animals, and they are weaker than us, however, it is not a stance on Christian morals to protect them as they are still being used for consumption. If anything I would argue Buddhism would more so fall in line with the protection of animals.

Cattle die with a purpose to feed people, and they’re cared for up to that point.
Animals on the frontlines in WWII were pointless and wasteful.
Going back to the charge of the savoia cavalleria, it was frowned upon at the time to use horses in direct combat, instead of just rear line scouting and logistics.

Well, yea. It was more so that it takes a lot more time to raise a good horse then it does to construct a vehicle. I don’t think that has to do anything with morality though. It’s like a difference of years of them aging, and then training, vs some weeks or months for a vehicle. Not every country was like the Japanese to just throw away useful resources like planes and manpower.

But unlike an animal they can surrender.
They can flee too. Which we are seeing as well.
That is exactly how my Grandfather Survived with his unit when all was lost. Conscripted to fight, and he did, but when it was time he surrendered his unit in Italy.
Animals are not nearly as lucky.

So you mean during the war any animal that was caught will be killed? Why will they kill valuable military resources like horse?
