Since the sawn-off weapons are typically made in for the sake of making the weapon more handy or conceal carry.
The ones that are found in game are typically of the variety that leaves the original weapon as small as possible by chopping off the barrel and stock, leaving the weapon in a pseudo-pistol form that even descriptions for things like the PPSh-41 Obrez state that it is made specifically to be concealed.
Therefore I believe that weapons such as the PPSh-41 Obrez and M2 Carbine sawoff should give the option to be worn in the pistol slot, of course with reduced ammo pools, in the same vane as the Mosin Obrez and Sawed-off shotgun.
Balance-wise I believe it would have negligible impact as the pistols usually are reserved as a last ditch weapon so they are typically not used, so I think allowing the sawed-off weapons available in the TT to be placed in the pistol slot would allow for more loadout options to kit our soldiers with.
Of course if this feels like too much or would make the game more immersion breaking than it already is then the ability to place sawn-off guns on the pistol slot could be reserved to the Guerilla class instead since it would be fitting for them to carry such things.
- Allow soldiers to have sawed-off guns in their pistol slot
- ONLY allow Guerrillas to have sawed-off guns in their pistol slot
- Do not allow soldiers to have sawed-off guns in their pistol slot
Kinda sounds like a balanching nightmare as each faction will only have 1 or 2 sawed off guns and each at a diffrent BR.
People will demand sawed off guns for each BR just to enforce some kind of balanching since faction A has gun A in BR y so faction B needs one for BR y aswell. But then again faction A will need one for BR Z since faction B has one there.
Of course allowing people to carry an extra full gun would have major balance implications. Even with the Obrez allowing people to carry a second gun without the need to give up their ammo bags or be forced to use it as a primary would be a major advantage that the factions the face, Japan and the US, simply can not replicate.
And would they still be locked to assaulters? Or can I just slap a M2 Sawnoff into the pistol slot for my engineers?
If this is allowed to happen, it should be class restricted AND there should only be 1 spare magazine at most
Sorry, pistol automatics should be rare and giving troops wide access to an essentially main gun for pistol is kinda nuts. Not only would it become obvious meta, but it also makes the 2nd weapon slot basically pointless - while guerillas already get two with plenty of ammo.
Sawed off shotguns and Moisins Obrez are not either stong or common enough to cause comparable issues so that’s fine.
Even were sawed off Mosins and shotguns in the TT they would not be as strong as having a full SMG in a pistol slot. The Mosin is bad at short ranges because it’s a bolt action, the shotgun is a shotgun and thus bad at anything past short ranges. The PPSh Obrez isn’t exactly phenomenal but it’s a beast in close quarters and serviceable enough at ranges past that to be better than anything else in the pistol slot by a huge margin.
Event sawn offs like the Mosin Obrez should be/remain pistol slot, TT sawn offs should be/remain primary. I’d find it easier to understand a few weapons (like it was IRL) rather than every man and his dog carrying a sawn off m2 carbs or ppsh. In reality not that many front line troops even got a sidearm.
