The event assault engineer is locked to using the Hyde 1944 which is the allies one and only assault rifle in the tech tree while Germany has 4 assault rifles if I remember correctly and so the Soviets have the 2 most powerful assault rifles, if not allow the American assault engineers to use all Thomason’s lock them to using Thompson’s last br iv so make it fair by locking it to high BR

I think that would require reclassifying the Thompsons to AR from SMGs. Are you certain that this is a good idea?

If you use select Thompson for eg starting at the m1, m1921 ac (box), m1928 (50 drum mag), m1921 ac (50 drum mag) would all be locked to high br keeping the same place as the other assault engineers locked at high br but with the freedom of weaponry such as the axis assault engineers.

You wouldn’t have to reclass the Thompson from a smg to assault rifle and because it would be select thompsons it wouldn’t be op and dominate lower br because you won’t have engineers running around with m3a1 grease guns and m1a1 thompsons in br2

Rather than that, I think it would be better to add several guns that fall into the assault rifle category for the Americans. As a temporary measure, it might be better to move the Thompson .30 cal to the assault rifle category. I am against moving the .45 ACP Thompson to the assault rifle category.

I just think that Assault Engineers should also be able to use SMGs as well…

At this point, that might just be easier to do.
Also if we make US engineers have the ability to use Thompsons, I can guarantee that other factions will demand similar abilities anyway.

Compared to their predecessors from Stalingrad campaign,
german assault engineers got magical 80% protection helmets and extended AR options (were limited to shitty Mkb42 H and W only),
soviets got free body armor and access to ARs (were limited to SVT 38/40 and AVT 40 only in Stalingrad).
Meanwhile, US and Japan assault engineers only gotten access to ARs, which they barely got any! And nothing else.

Giving 1 US and 1 Japan squads access to SMGs or MGs as well would even the odds.

Only fair.

I did mean that all Assault Engineer squads should have that option, of course. I’d quite like some Canadian Assault Engineers at some point, but there are no Commonwealth Assault Rifles we could ever add from the war to give to them (and I don’t want to have to use the God awful Hyde on them, no American prototypes on my Commonwealth troops).

now that you mention it, engineers with STENs would be nice!

If Assault Engineers get SMGs they have to all get them not just one. The Japanese don’t have other ARs and they have worse SMGs too so why should just the US get SMGs for Assault Egineers?

Dude, wouldn’t it be better to give the event engineers a rifle like that?

Why do you need the Thompson? Just because Germany gets multiple versions of the same thing? Allow all of them to use smgs … and then deal.

That’s a machine gun. It’s not even an assaulter weapon.

And why is it called an automatic rifle?

Because it is. Automatic Rifles, like the BAR, Chauchat, Fedorov Avtomat or this Lewis Assault Phase Rifle, were designed for walking fire in WW1 and are a type of LMG.

thats just how light machine guns were called before the term was invented.

The “Lewis Assault Phase Rifle” was designed during WW1 as a contender for a weapon meant to provide walking automatic fire on the assault. This was a doctrine the US developed, which the BAR eventually became the platform used on - hip-fire on the move whilst the infantry assault a trench.

The concept has nothing to do with the modern concept of what a “Assault Rifle” is meant to be - a intermediate cartridge shoulder rifle with high magazine capacity capable of select-fire (auto and semi auto). Out of all the terms used here, the LAPR can only really be called select-fire.

It’s using a full power cartridge, not intermediate.
It’s not a shoulder fired service rifle.
20 rounds would have been a respectable capacity before and just after WW2, but the modern standard is around 30 today.

BAR is also basically like an AR so it wouldn’t hurt to give the US assault engi squad access to BAR (like the Japanese premium engineer with BARs)

6x engi with bar is not the same as 1 engi plus 4 machine gunner with bar… arguably the latter is better but it shouldn’t be used as a comparison.
