A Review of Past Halloween Events and Some Suggestions

2026 is about to bring us the fourth Halloween

We’ve been through three Halloween events already. Except for the last one, they were basically all fun. Let’s look back.

The first Halloween event

· Location: night-mode Moscow map, first defense point, endless mode
· Pros: ammo resupply and healing; if you unlock weapons early (especially the OP ones), it’s easy
· No flamethrower back then; after the damage and move-speed nerfs, as long as you can dodge fire lines, it’s not too hard
· Verdict: pretty fun, not too difficult; surviving 20 waves basically means you broke even — an hour or two a day and you’re done without breaking a sweat

The second Halloween event: Earth Shield

· Plays like Left 4 Dead — clear one stage after another
· Use grenades to destroy 15–20 zombie spawn points, defend the radio, fight the boss, then exfil to clear; kind of like the Helldivers-style “destroy the nests / upload the data” modes
· Maps: Berlin, Rzhev, Pacific Guadalcanal, and Tunisia — four maps, all big enough
· Verdict: very fun, memorable, the best one so far
· The only balance-breaker: the Tunisia boss that summons 20 non-despawning self-destructing will-o’-the-wisps, plus all those oases blocking your line of sight; other than that, all good

How was the second Halloween event?

The third Halloween event

· Verdict: utter garbage — a gutted version of the second event
· The big maps are gone, cut down to Berlin street fighting; the map is tiny, and if you run out to kite mobs you get gassed to death
· Random weapon crates only open on the final stage; each defense zone is tiny, and the zombie count is cranked to explode
· Boss zombies have way too much HP
· No ammo resupply; and the weapons you get are basically un-upgraded versions with no damage boost
· Player character skills and built-in skill points from the second event removed
· No medkits, no anti-tank rocket launchers, no engineer hammer
· At launch it was a disaster — even the devs’ own replay couldn’t clear it, a total no-survivors situation; 30 minutes of pure wasted life
· Rewards: TT weapons that someone apparently slapped fresh paint on off the tech tree, splashed some blood on, and dared to sell as “new rare event weapons,” dumped into crates to disgust players and pollute the loot pool
· Selling the bloodied RD-44 in the second event was understandable — at least you could actually unlock it in-game and it eased the pressure. What’s the point of this one?
· And on top of that, the weapon is locked behind a teammate tag — only paying players can unlock and use it, nobody else can. That’s a bit too cyberpunk-level disgusting
· The flamethrower squad they gave out was lukewarm at best; compared to the coin flamethrower squad sold before, it even has 100 less fuel
And honestly, every single time — those rooftop or basement holds on stage 2 or stage 3. You’re stuck with some weak-ass weapon, some un-upgraded crappy SMG, crouched in some narrow platform. Can’t run, can’t get out. And your random-match teammates probably won’t listen to a single call — they’ll just charge in and feed, or straight-up quit. What are you supposed to do?

To put it bluntly, it’s like being some poor woman with both ends stuffed and strung up over a fire — completely screwed from every direction with no way out.
The third Halloween event had so many flaws. It wasn’t original, nor was it just a simple copy-paste. It felt like they took the second Halloween and cut out three-quarters of its content.
It really seems like they saw how much fun players had with the second one, and deliberately made this one to frustrate us. Its list of downsides is even longer than all the good parts from the maps of the first and second events combined.
The fourth Halloween is less than ten days away. I really don’t want to go through that nightmare again, that draining experience where playing the game feels like tedious work.

After going over the three Halloween events, let’s now take a look at the character themes and mechanics featured in these Halloween events.

  1. Zombie attacks massively slow down your character
    · Other games at most have a grab that triggers an execution animation you cancel by holding Q; here, getting scratched once causes a massive slowdown
    · Against a zombie horde, if you’re slow on your feet and get scratched once, it’s basically the same as being deliberately tripped — you’re dead
The worst part is getting scratched by a zombie in the late game. Congratulations, you’re about to watch your health bar pull a disappearing trick. It’s absolutely miserable.
    · Then what’s the point of melee? Your melee is mostly single-target, not AoE — it can’t do the lawnmower-musou thing like in World War Z
    · A lot of the time you’re just getting schooled by zombies
Remove the heavy slowdown debuff when taking damage. Scratches from zombies, fire burns and similar effects should only deal more damage. They shouldn’t apply movement penalties like this, which don’t match real life.

In movies, when someone gets kicked or hurt badly, they yelp and flinch right away. But in this game, it’s like you’re frozen by an Ice-shroom and get slowed down. This is where all the realism-focused players ought to back this change.

  1. The skill problem

· In the game’s fictional setting, the four characters (Japanese samurai, Soviet assault trooper, German machine gunner, American medic) are all named, skilled superhumans
· In-game, though, they give us a one-star, skill-less, 5-second-reload super cripple — the kind even OP weapons can’t save
The event troops were pretty weak and came with no abilities.

· Only by the third event, after public pressure, did they grudgingly give a little: better stamina so you don’t die as fast when chased — changing the soup without changing the medicine, doesn’t fix the root problem
· Suggested fix, pick one of three:
· Like TF2’s defense mode, use in-game points to upgrade skills and reach that fully-maxed “super Dutch soldier” state
· Or just buff the soldiers to the super Dutch soldier baseline directly, so players don’t have to grind it themselves
· Or just give 20 points and let each character spend them freely in this special mode (medic / mounting / assault / building defenses / spe

Give these elite, one-in-a-million super soldiers 30-30-30 perk points for us to allocate freely. Halloween only comes once a year; it’s all about having fun, after all.

  • Disagree; the soldiers should stay plain with no perks at all.

It’s already been a year. I know DF takes a whole month just to roll out four jeeps in a major update. Hopefully they can spare some time for the Halloween event this time around. I’d hate to see them butcher the first and second events again just to cobble together another stripped-down, smaller version.

Getting a maxed 3-star version of one of these guns only costs a few tens of thousands of silver coins normally.
Yet trying to roll a decent one from the crate can easily burn through a million silver, and you still might not get it.

What’s your take on this practice: taking regular tech-tree weapons, slapping the “Bloody” skin on them, calling them new items, and clogging up the loot pool?
  • New weapons are great.
  • Terrible, just a lazy reskin with no effort.
  • Remove these from the regular loot crates so they don’t clutter the pool. Put them in a separate, dedicated Halloween crate instead.
  • Turn them into weapon decals that we can apply to regular guns, just like tank decals.

Im fine with the event rewards being just simple tech tree guns reskinned.
This way, anyone who dislikes these events can avoid playing it without missing out on unique rewards. Personally, I would be even happier with piles of silver and appearance orders as rewards instead.

I just don’t want stinky Explosive fire zombies on a closed map It was nearly imposible pass from wave 5 with bolties against a horde of Explosive zombies

Don’t forget those cracked super-bot enemies.
If you don’t take them out early, after three shots, their fourth round almost always lands a head or torso hit and chunks half your health.
Our characters don’t have helmets or plate armor to soak damage, basically just squishy loadouts.
Worse, tons of zombies will body-block for these bots. Their threat ramps up exponentially, turning them into completely broken super bots.
I suspect Anton just dumped the old, nerf-free early bot code straight into these AI units.

Everyone has no taste. The last one was the most fun besides the first, which wasn’t even a halloween event btw. It was a much closer take on old school call of duty zombies. I absolutely loved it. Was it hard? Abso-freaking-lutely. I only managed to win twice. That doesn’t make it not fun though. What made it not fun was getting really bad team mates or ones that didn’t play at all.

Perhaps there should of been some kind of difficulty settings which influenced the prizes. Obviously scaling better prizes with higher difficulty.

The second one, which most votes said was really fun, i absolutely hated. It wasn’t challenging at all, it was so incredibly boring and repetitive. You had to run around the whole map with hardly any zombies to shoot through out it. They only really appeared when you started the mini activities within. And they introduced devil monster things which totally ruined the zombie vibe. Literally makes no sense how people thought this was better than the last one. Maybe just because it was easy? Easy is boring.

Is that really true?
Was the last event actually fun?
To me, it felt like shoddy content. To ramp up the difficulty, the devs took a really lazy approach and just stacked huge hordes of monsters.
The map is far too small to fight off that many zombies.
There’s no ammo resupply, weapons are random draws with wildly inconsistent performance. The soldier abilities are terrible, barely even worth mentioning.
The battle pass progress requires you to win the match. If you lose, you’ve wasted that whole 30 minutes or even an hour.
The third Halloween felt just like going to work. Lose one run and you get nothing. Even if you win, there’s barely any satisfaction — you spent over 30 minutes just for one crate roll.
That same 30 minutes could get you two regular matches and 6000 silver for another crate pull.
Is it even worth it?

First zombies event was cool but it got bored fast imo… I enjoyed replaying the second one even after I got the daily done just for fun.

Its the worst by far i cant stand that they add so many reskins that just full the vet box with trash

reskinned guns should not be in the box.
It would be far better if they always returned in Halloween and I could freely pick from them instead.

Do you know how many reskinned event guns are clogging our crates so far? All of them are straight from the tech tree.

There are 36 weapons in total. Whether they are the bloody variants, the Roma-marked ones, striped, gilded, or just repainted with white camo — DF made these 36 just to pollute the loot pool.

The thing is, pulling these guns isn’t outright terrible, but it’s definitely frustrating. At best you get two small perks: the gun comes pre-upgraded to three stars, so you save tens of thousands of silver, and you don’t have to sell it.

But you’ve already poured millions of silver into crates trying for good drops. If all you get is these weapons that are practically identical to their tech-tree counterparts…
It stings so bad when you see someone else pull rare stuff like the Stinger, MP41(r) or the RMN.

At least it’s better than pulling a hammer that has literally no difference compared to the one you get for free, on every single Engineer.

There’s no real difference.
The second you roll one of these copied tech-tree guns, you’ve already lost out.
Getting the hammer item is exactly the same.
Both are bad pulls.

They both mean the millions of silver you spent went straight down the drain.
The disappointment feels identical.

Actually, the thought of getting slowed down after taking damage from zombies makes me want to laugh.
Slave owners used whips to force Black people to work faster. So imagine this: in the world of Enlisted, getting whipped would make you less productive instead.

I mean, the Red PPS42 does more DMG, unless they nerfed it.

This just isn’t true. I finished the event quite easily with only winning twice. The experience was bad in the beginning, but they quickly changed it to give out way more. They also nerfed how many exploders showed up.

Small map and big hordes is a rush. No different than the very first zombie event. To me, challenge is fun and it was a true survival challenge. Easy and monotonous events are a total chore to get through. This is why i also enjoyed the ww1 event. It was slow, but it was a challenge. I often times have to handicap myself in regular matches to have fun playing the game anymore. I welcome something a little more difficult that keeps me engaged. As i said, i wouldn’t mind if there was a difficulty setting for different levels of skill.

At least one has the advantage of being a fully upgraded weapon. The hammer is exactly the same and doesn’t have upgrades either.

Plus you have unique kill feed so people know you are a boss for running around with a golden Beretta.
Hammer… can’t kill with it and peopel can barely see it.
