A Review of Past Halloween Events and Some Suggestions

I wish they would just play the classic CoD zombies maps and learn what makes those modes fun. It’s not railroading the experience with scripted challenges or linear doors, it’s not with buyable endings or “victories”, and it’s certainly not with making a mode where the only way to get the rewards efficiently is cheesing the whole mode.

The first zombies event did it best, it gives you a few wall buys, a mystery box, and a simple map and lets you play however you want. If they had just built off that original idea then the zombies mode would be beloved everytime it returned. Future events should take that simple idea and run with it, adding more avenues for player freedom and creativity.

While I agree that the second one was just bad and I don’t know why people liked it other than it being easy to grind, I think the third was took one step forward and another step back. Having buyable doors was cool, but it sucks having them be completely linear and rng based. The difficult is cool, but not when it’s because the map doesn’t fit the mechanics of the mode well, and having more weapons was nice but when the mystery box is at the very end next to the buyable ending then you end up not getting to even use most of the cool weapons.

I disagree; the third event was the best—not just in terms of innovation, but also entertainment. A very common issue—and the one that occurred most frequently—was being matched with players who had very little experience, often leaving you to play alone. On top of that, there were certain exploits that allowed you to access areas outside the intended boundaries (which, to be honest, wasn’t all that bad, since the map eventually becomes boring—though I’ll admit that’s a negative point).

It was the first zombies event where console players became slightly more relevant, as—after two years—we were finally given some aim assistance against the zombies; however, this “help” only worked when using weapons and didn’t apply to all the zombies.

Schlawg needs aim assist on zombies

We have aim assist in the base game, but not in Zombies—does that make sense to you? Imagine facing 25+ zombies with a bolt-action rifle and a pistol. I complained about this in Gates of Destiny, and they ended up adding it.

I don’t need it, but the useless teammates I end up with in my matches certainly do.

What the second event did better without a doubt was the map diversity.
It did not get boring as quickly as the third event was. Having to redo the same 3 stages (which were always exactly the same) got boring very very quickly.

And this is coming from someone with 120+ hours in Project Milkhail and 3 100% replays of Fallout 3.

I’m honestly so done with zombies. its a dead game mode. pls stop offering it every Halloween. pls do something different that is not zombies.

the green explosive zombies need to just be removed all together. not even cod zombies has them. also if they added stuff that zombies dropped like infinite ammo and kill all current zombies in the map. like cod did, it would’ve made it worth playing.

Have you played bo2 zombies while abusing the aim assist? it removed any challenge in managing your targets.

Yeah, I played it, and it was still one of the best zombie games, right up there with the first one. Aim assist was the standard back then; I never saw any PC player complaining, like, “Oh, poor zombies, they deserve a fair fight”—what a load of nonsense, man.

Play the game, this is not a 12h burger king shift

Let’s see if this post actually gets forwarded to the gaijin before the Halloween event starts, lmao.

The playerbase is heavily split on the issue.
There are players like me who cant wait to play zombies again and are already hyped and there are players dont ever want to touch the event again.

The same goes for Modern Conflict. Mod I found innovative, but which I personally find incredibly boring to play. That said, both modes still have a presence and offer variety in custom matches. As long as there’s recurring interest, there’s no real need to analyze what players actually want. Don’t be surprised if, this week, they drop a zombies mode set in a city, featuring Cold War-era weapons and assets recycled from AM.

I’m thinking of making a separate suggestion thread: for future Halloween events, add new unique hero squads from nations outside the current four.
Candidates could be China, Italy, Australian units, Indian troops, and more. There are countless distinguished WWII troops to pick from.
Alongside adding these new squads, the old four Halloween hero squads also deserve balance buffs and improvements

Expanding the soldiers available in the Halloween event has definitely been suggested before with good support from the players, so I would be surprised if we could still only choose from the 4 heroes.
One of the four, Reinhard Rust was even featured in the April Fools event as a machine gunner fighting for the Central Powers. It would be weird if the developers did not try to expand on this potential.
