A BAR/KE 7 for the Soviet Tech Tree: Simonov RPS-3

Like the TKB-336 in the current event, this weapon embodies the subclass of MG with higher mobility, but low capacity magazines. The RPS-3 boasts a 20 round magazine, 550 base rate of fire, and only weighs about 6kg. As far as I recall, it was almost accepted for service, but was cancelled due to the standardization of the 7.62x41mm M43 intermediate cartridge, and was subsequently redeveloped into an AR.

From a gameplay perspective, asymmetrical balance dictates the Soviet MGs at low BRs are worse than their German and Japanese counterparts, leaving them unviable as an option realistically. In addition to potential buffs to the DP-27 and DPM, I think adding the closest viable BR 3 MG option to service as possible in this subclass of MG would be good for the game. And yes, I try to provide suggestions for all nations where they have shortcomings.

I forgot to put in an “I Voted No” in the 2nd and 3rd poll, my bad.

(If the coding to edit a poll allowed beyond 5 minutes of posting, I could have changed it)

conveniently the sovjet “shortcoming” is at that weapon class that is arguably useless.

so we’re speaking of more or less effective 4+1 assaulter squad ?

Unfortunately, there are some issues with the RPS-3/6; there is very little data on it, as well as few photos.

You can see the RPS-6 in this video.

Also, a small selection of photos, but there isn’t a single photo from the left side.

Nevertheless, the RPS-6 machine gun served as the basis for the experimental RPS-M-3 assault rifle, and you can immediately notice the visual similarity. Photos of it from various angles can help in recreating the RPS-6 machine gun.

The RPS-M-3 assault rifle had a rate of fire of 535 rounds per minute and a weight of 5.85 kg with an empty magazine. Most likely, the RPS-6 machine gun had very similar values.
