Why are mortarmen and flametroopers excluded from squad additions?

Most squads I have offer me the option to include an engineer, a sniper, an assaulter, an artilleryman, an anti-take blaster, and even a machine gunner… so why are mortarmen and flametroopers excluded? Is this anything having to do with the actual composition of the armies included in this game? I kinda doubt they would all have that exact similarity.

Probably balancing reasons. Imagine having all Troops runaround with a Yeetweapon

Currently the only benefit of mortar and flame squads is that they are the only ones to have those specialised units. If any other squad would also have those soldiers, there would be no point in using mortar or flame squads.

I think there should be flame troopers in other squads like engineer and assaulter squads. Mortars I’m fine with them being in a unique squad to limit their spam

IMO, flamethrower and mortarman for engineer squad only

This is very likely the case.

Although I guess there is the possibility that they add the ability to add those unit types later on whenever they revisit squad upgrades.

Since reserve upgrades have become obsolete and veteran rewards are still not available, maybe there is a chance that they add special upgrades similar to engineer squads that only mortar or flame squads can get.

Until something like that happens tho (which has just been me speculating on what they can do) I dont see these specialty units being available anywhere else.

That would work for sure. Im pretty certain in CBT you could add each to different squads. After CBT that went away

So I guess there’s no point in using the artillery or machine gunner squads then?

Everyone talks about mortar spam, but it’s kind of a crapshoot whether you actually hit anything, and usually the fools don’t even die on contact.

Thank you for mentioning “reserve upgrades,” I still don’t understand what is meant by the upgrade that says “increases number of soldiers in reserve.” Where’s this reserve?

Arty squad has it’s own abilities.

Because I don’t see use in the normal flametrower squad since I can’t pick the map beforehand, I m not gonna waste a squad slot in hopes a cqb map will apear for them to shine.
So, having the option to use them on another squad would be amazing

Yeah, I guess you could say that engineers are also “specialized” as a squad, since you can only create artillery and cannon guns while using the actual Engineer squad itself. Forgot about that.
