What ever happened to rocket artillery?

It was marketed as a “new feature” of the Rzhev update (btw Rzhev badly needs to be BR 1-3).

There were two premium squads sold with this mechanic.

Then there was an event with a squad for each nation (half of which I missed due to vacation and nearly bought them with gold)

But it was and still is underwhelming?

I don’t think I’ve damaged any tank with it ever or got more infantry kills than I would’ve got with normal artillery?

Is it waiting to be buffed? (I’ll regret not buying the USSR and German event squads with gold then)

Or its current state is fine with the devs?

Rocket artillery was already buffed right around the event and honestly the rocket arty is just a special “Gimmick” arty that can kill tanks way easier. ( I doubt it will get buffed anymore unless people start suggesting to buff it but considering the first time it was announced people didn’t like it being a feature of the new premium squad calling it potentially p2w during it’s announcement phase when in reality it’s not too destructive and rarely seen)

It’s a very underwhelming feature.

They actually somewhat buffed it a week after the release of the premium squads.

Patch notes

IMPROVING ROCKET ARTILLERY

The new feature of the “Rzhev” update - rocket artillery - is already available to many of you. We’ve read your first impressions and suggestions about this feature. So here are the improvements!

Targeting now takes half as long, 7.5 seconds instead of 15, and the rocket salvo takes 6.9 seconds instead of 8.4. Additionally, the armor penetration of direct hits has increased from 35 to 45 millimeters. Also, the maximum effective range of the armor-piercing fragments has increased from 2.5 meters to 3.5.

You can already check how the rocket strike has changed by calling it with one of the new radio operator squads of Germany or the USSR. By participating in the recently started event, you can also get radio operator squads with similar mechanics for each country just by playing!

I don’t know if it’s intentional or bugged. But the rockets are always offset. So they travel a bit further than the white crosshair. It means you need to know from what direction they’re fired.

But it’s not even that simple.

I know @Cleetus_WA been experimenting a bit in practice mode with the rocket arty. And he believes the offset seems vector based. Like if I call it on the rifle range part of practice, it’s directionally different from when on tank range.

Regardless, he’s been very consistent with taking out even all the heavier tanks offsetting the marker like this.

I don’t know about usability of rocket arty, but my complain is that it doesn’t feel like rocket arty at all.

Pretty sure you get an artillery shell or an artillery rocket up ya’ it’s gonna feel the same either way!

Except rocket arty doesn’t fire ranging shots from what I know. Just one example.

Sadly it doesn’t look like it either.

One time I was in a plane and those rockets started spawning mid air out of nowhere.

I use event squad for low tier japan, and if I can land my rockets on marked enemy tanks they pretty much end up death, but Im not sure about high tier tanks

Rocket artillery should have never specifically be anti tank AND better and longer anti infantry barrages at the same time - instead, rocket artillery should have had a much smaller area of impact and a much faster travel time, as a quick precision anti tank strike.

AT artillery idea is just pointless gimmick. Since it can’t target tanks in grey zone (rightfully so).

It could be done, since tanks have enough time to move out of such strike anyways - however it does force them to move, which can give away their position.
