I did actually think if it was going to be BR4 it ought to foldered with the Panther or something on BR4 - rather than only being able to unlock after the BR5 variant. That way it would at least be really quite useful as a stepping stone.
Also agree with your suggestions 1 and 2 - but I kind of get the progression element of at least having to research the whole line - just not the being forced to buy it all too. Especially with vehicles.

Imagine a player who before the merged played only Berlin and Normandy - he has unlocked everything (P-47D-28 / IS-2 / Tiger II H) - does that mean that he has completed the game ?
No - he still must unlock A-20G / T-34-76 / Panzer IV J.

It seem fair. dont forget the damage is full damage over 13.6 unlike useless m2. and for the full damage full auto we have now avt’s ammo is 15/105 fg422 is 20/80.

Did this update change the outfit for the AT-44 squad in Stalingrad? Or has it been in the game for a while? I don’t see it mentioned anywhere.
But I definitely like it a lot more than the previous default outfit for Stalingrad that this squad had.
I love the all-white camos.

I like the update…even performance is better for me. But one thing I don’t understand is that I seem to be getting Pacific War all the time now. 6 matches in a row and every single one was lost. Why no Normandy anymore in BR V for me? 
Because Japan has just received new stuff in the research tree, people are grinding for it, they need opponents, requiring you (= USA) to come and fight in the Pacific.
Japan is crazy stacked at the moment, I played US BR5 yesterday in 4stack team and lost every battle.
I highly doubt. So many people already farmed hundreds of thousands of free exps before the update even dropped.
Then they already have the new stuff, and just want to use it now. I guess.
