Unlocking active squad slots through grind

The problem:
Essentialy, if you want to be effective in certain campaigns, you pretty much NEED to have certain squads always active (or as backup). For example snipers for US (D-day effectivity), engineers because of the planes or rally points, automatic weapon squad in Moscow (because of the SMG meta in Moscow)…
Thus, purchasing active squad slots is not just a convenience, it is outright P2W because of how much advantages you are given (taking pretty much any squad you might want or need) in comparison to default F2P account.

The following idea is rather simple one and inspired by WT (monetization is in its nature clone to WT… only made worse, so why not copy something that can actually do something somewhat good for a change)

Possible bandage solution:
My proposition is, to have certain amount of active squad slots unlockable for free. In WT, you can use silver lions (not premium currency) to unlock certain amount of slots for your vehicles, if you want any more, then those have to be purchased through premium currency.
Of course, I personaly would still prefer complete removal of purchasing active slots (including in premium account time, but I can´t see developers doing that anytime soon)

  • Any player should be able to unlock 2 slots for infantry, and 1 vehicle slot.

  • Unlocking active squad slots would be possible either by grinding, or as addition together with certain campaign levels.

1. Grind option
This option is tied to the total amount of kills player achieved. I can imagine first free infantry slot to be relatively easy to unlock (total 500 kills), while second slot should be harder (around 3000 kills total). The vehicle slot should be unlockable somewhere in the middle (around 1500 kills total).
This unlock will apply for both nations in the campaign.

(numbers are just to give you idea how hard/easy unlocking should be, and can be adjusted)

2. Campaign level unlock
This option would give us ability to unlock active squad slot together with unlock of certain campaign level.

Vehicle slot should be unlockable at campaign level 4 (first plane).

First infantry slot should be unlockable with engineer squad, but considering it is just level 3, first infantry slot should be unlockable somewhere around level 6 (flametroopers in Normandy or radio operators in Moscow).

Second infantry slot should be unlockable somewhere around level 11-12 (where things are getting harder to unlock for F2P).
However, this unlock would not be campaign-wide, only nation-wide in the said campaign.

(again, campaign levels are not meant to be final)

Pros:

  • F2P accounts will be less limited in comparison to paying player who can purchase active slots on top of the premium account bonus.
  • Ability to take “necessary” squads to be able to fight in the sky and ground, and being less affected by map design. Thus, being more viable overall.
  • Sky will be more contested, which might have effect of stopping possible domination of one player/team over the sky. However, it would also increase amount of bombs falling on the battlefield, thus measures should be taken to prevent planes from mass-spawnkilling and being main players on the field… that is job for infantry.

Cons:

  • Being forced to choose your playstyle, or using more tactics while playing in party is being thrown out of the window (but honestly, non F2P players already did that, this is just attempt to lower the damage that has already been done). So this is further embracing horrible (but it seems by devs accepted) idea of braindead gameplay of unlimited options.
  • When implemented, this might be either too easy or too grindy (knowing gaijin, we know which option is it going to be)
  • F2P account will still be limited, premium time with active slots will only continue enhancing this problem.

If such suggestion already appeared and I missed it somehow, please link it, so I can include it in the main post.

This is the main reason why I currently refuse to support Enlisted and why I have been staying away from it. This point has bugged me aswell and as long the community will not protest, nothing will be changed.

Have the option to use either an extra infantry slot or a vehicle slot past campaign level 15.

Ever since premium time of CBT players expired, I see little to no counter for my planes. And I assume most people like to keep tanks in their vehicle slot instead of planes. Giving an extra slot will help counter planes to an extent without compromising on the tank. But will cost you an infantry slot that can house a support squad like snipers or radio which have their own uses in specific situations.
Or you can make use of that extra infantry slot and sacrifice on planes.

Even if we protest nothing changes it changes after many months of waiting. You should have seen what happend here on the forum when the community first saw “closed monetisation test, where everything might be changed”. And here we are now, with the exact same system opened to the public.

Well, the more attention we can create the higher hopes we have for the change, or at least be noticed.

Hopefully once premium customization options become a thing, there’ll be no longer a need to give premium players the significant advantage of having that extra flexibility in every battle. Your suggestions are good it’d be nice if they took them to heart.

The fact, that we were lied to by false promises that monetization is not final, and the fact that it made it with all its issues into the open beta is, to be honest infuriating. It was all nothing but damage control effort without changing a thing…the gaijin way of hoping people will just forget it or keep their mouths shut in the face of cheap mobile game monetization.

However, we now have to work with what we have, thus at least lower the damage that was caused.

This is why my suggestion includes specifically a vehicle slot. There is still danger, that players will use it for an extra tank instead unless an additional vehicle slot will be fixed as a slot for aircraft.

I know that I might be asking too much @Keofox, @DisconnecT83 but is it possible to ask for a stance from developers on that matter (original suggestion, not the following comment on monetization) ?
This system also works in WT, and it works pretty well (people are still purchasing additional active slots despite earning few for free).

i hafta disagree here. the game is still in beta, so u werent lied to. they likely have more pressing concerns like bug fixes and new content. also ur focusing on a fairly smol amount of negative things as if they are destroying all ur fun. there are many good things about this game. for one thing it is much better in as many ways as i can think of than its nearest equivalents (im sure u can guess which i mean)

I´m sorry if it sounds too elitist, but it is very hard thing to judge by OBT player because of how different situation was back then. But I will try to briefly explain without going to details.

Time and situation when I was making this topic were very different and salt in was greatly influenced by Enlisted Monetization forum section debacle. In short, few people in CBT were chosen to “test” monetization, but problem is that the entire section stayed without almost any dev responses to anything. And of course, feedback there seemed to be thoroughly ignored back then (active squad slots issue still is ignored to this day), while we were repeatedly told that nothing is final (turned out, it was… some things cannot be changed since mass of people paid already).
So take this part with grain of salt.

But back to the topic.
The entire point is, that F2P is now left without competetive options how to counter certain vehicles without hindering their own combat ability in another field. This type of choice is not lowered, but completely bypassed by anyone who pays which creates the problematic gap.
All that is needed to solve this issue is to give F2P option to grind for at least one vehicle slot (and prefferably one infantry slot).
You see, it is not going to devalue premium or investment of anyone who purchased them, because F2P can never get amount of choices of the paying player.

hmm, i see ur point. id prolly be more concerned with being competitive if i didnt have horrible visibility almost always in game, but i can see y competitive ppl would be annoyed.
(ps. thx for explaining. i wasnt here then, so i didnt kno thats how stuff was)

Playing Tunisia is a complete pain as sappers are so high up the progression and only way to counter enemy planes is to take the Hurricane, but then you have nothing against armor as it only has LMGs.
