ghostofishmael’s original post
Second write of this since I accidently deleted it…
I liked ghostofishmael’s idea on different ammo types but the execution needed some further planning so I want to fix that.
Buying ammo types
This could be done in two different ways. Buy either buying them with non-premium currency like sliver lions. The other way is by using a special order that guarantees the ammo type you want. You could also buy them with gold for both options
Different ammo types
I am by no means a weapon expert so some of these ideas may be stupid or the ammo doesn’t exist but this is just some thoughts.
AP ammo
pretty much the same as ghostofishmael’s idea
Sub sonic ammo
-lowers muzzle speed
-cannot be used in semi auto guns
+less sound
Super speed ammo (IDK what the correct term is)
-increases the chance for a weapon failure (especially on semi autos)
-more sound
+higher muzzle speed
+keeps damage at range better
What are your guy’s thoughts on this? What would you change, remove, or add?
Premium/tracer ammo
This ammo type would be available in the premium battle pass or store. It would just be tracer ammo. Could be any color that tracer ammo could be in really life
Thoughts?
What are your guy’s thought on this? I especially want to hear ghostofishmael’s on this!
This could probably just go under the original post. As long as theres no “premium ammo” that actually gives bonuses.
Some issues:
Sub sonic ammo is typically higher bullet mass and lower speed.
Super speed ammo is actually just refered to as high velocity ammo. High velocity ammo shouldnt increase weapon failure and should actually have less damage at range since the bullet has less mass and loses velocity faster than a large round over distance (thus why .223 isnt used for distance shooting and larger rounds like 6.5 grendel and creedmore are used instead. Sorry for modern ammo reference but the concept of high velocity ammos weren’t very common at the time and I don’t know them that well either).
i dont like this idea like i didnt like ghosts…
adding currency to the game can only Negative, and consumables in game are bad things.
letting people to buy advantage in game using IRL money is P2W and once again p2w is bad thing!
Another issue I have here is I don’t know how much different ammo loads were used in ww2 since thats all that these ammo suggestions really are. Sub sonic ammo is just a larger bullet with less propellant. High velocity is a smaller bullet with more propellant. They all use the same base casing to fire out of said firearm
Squad upgrades would probably be much more elagant.
Most nations other than Germany (see below) didn’t use AP ammo for handheld stuff that wasn’t anti-tank rifle caliber.
Again, did not really exist in WW2.
High velocity would be the name. But these ammo types were not used historically in WW2. The closest we would have to this would be the “K hart” or “hard core” Mauser bullets with a tungsten core, capable of penetrating 13mm or armor iirc.
Tracers are fine as premium stuff. But having them be a battle pass reward would make more sense than making them a store thing as the current battle pass has jack shit to offer in terms of cosmetics. We also need more propaganda posters in battle passes.
In WW1 British .303" AP by the end of hte war was “proofed” by 70% of rounds piercing 10mm armour at 100 yards.
This is one of the reasons why allied half tracks as infantry fighting vehicles is not tenable and why they should not be introduced to Enlisted IJMO - they were not heavily armoured enough to withstand rifle fire at short ranges!
The German SdKfz 250/251 were better because their angles made them much more resistant to rifle-caliber bullets, and that is why they had angled sides. Plus at 14.5mm at front and 8mm for the sides they were appreciably thicker than US half-track 6mm.
The allied ones were really just “hard trucks” good for getting you to within a few hundred yards of an assault start.
Honestly I don´t think that purchasing premium ammunition in general would be a good idea (after all, this isn´t WoT). As was already suggested, perhaps moving it into squad upgrades would be better solution.
As for yet another currency… it would only eventually serve as another thing to slow down progress and increase grindiness.
Regular rounds already penetrate some covers like wood. But what do you think about my suggestion that I gave you in your own thread? Of course no ammo type besides different tracer colors should be locked behind paying.
