The Future of Enlisted: Where are we Headed?

Hey @James_Grove, @MajorMcDonalds

There have been lots of suggestions and visions posted over the years of what Enlisted should have. I’ve made my fair share. Some have been added, most half-finished (with no hint of being completed), many not in sight. Obviously, time is a big factor in developing and you can’t fulfil everyone’s desires and that’s fine.

But one thing that can be done “easily” and would go a long way, is for the Developers to take a moment to share with us “Their Updated Vision”…I’m not talking about the roadmap which is short time goals, or the initial vision of Enlisted in the beginning. I’m talking about the “long game” for Enlisted as it exists “now”. Is there even one or are we just winging it?

…because honestly, I don’t know…I dont think anyone does (perhaps not even those making it)…… I know where “I” would like it to go, where it could have gone, and why I have been around these last 4 years hoping to see it come to fruition. But what I want isnt the same thing…

One can’t help but notice the tone around the place has diminished alot over the years. Patience has been expended, Toxic/Bitterness has become common, and confidence lost (or just outright gone) because no one knows what “The Vision” is anymore. In that absence people turn to their own expectations which leads to more disappointment when those are not met.

This Part is the Suggestion:

So, Would you put it forward to those “leading the project” (the Devs) to take some time to reach out and answer these questions:

  • What is your vision of Enlisted?
  • Where do you see in Enlisted in 6 Years? Following in Warthunders footsteps?
  • What ground would you like to break Enlisted? What kind of features, scope etc
  • What has been set in motion towards those goals?
  • Is there still passion driving it….or has it been diverted to another project? (*cough Active Matter)
  • Where are we headed?

Now more than ever, it would be a good idea to give the path ahead some illumination, before too many lose faith that there is one.

More fostering hope! less managing disappointment.

Enlisted is a good game. It could be GREAT

I supported Warthunder for 12 plus years (still do), I felt like Enlisted would be another good long term investment (hence my 4 years of support).

If enlisted goes beyond WW2 it needs to sperate post War Vietnam/Korea. Like the pretend to do in world of tanks only actually doing it. Yes there’s a lot of pre WW2 from the 30’s to 45 but people want flash over substance.

Thank you for your post.

I strongly support this and have been wondering this myself.

The devs are dilly dallying there way with the occasional BS prototype and now bizarrely adding jets.

Personally I dont understand how jets will even work in Enlisted given how small the maps are and that surprise the focus is on ground support/attack rather than aerial dogfighting like War Thunder.

@Kriegerfaust007 I agree. Now I will say that I believe the Korean War and First Indochina War can work in Enlisted (95% of the weapons already exist and now we have jets).

But for Vietnam onwards I agree needs to be an Enlisted Two. This is due to the completely new style of weapons and just general gameplay.
Like Vietnam to me I think needs a new style compared to Enlisted which as some have remarked is sometimes more akin to the First World War than after.

Furthermore, what are helicopters? Are they APCs? Aeroplanes? Rider class? (they are like flying APCs with offensive weapons).
How would be balance USA and Allies in Vietnam VS Vietcong? The VC and North Vietnamese didnt really have offensive helicopters and tanks werent used much.

Most players seem to agree that we want more WWII stuff before going to the Cold War.

Yet the devs seem insistent on ignoring over half the war, entire nations and just plain common sense (eg. Why tf do we have Nationalist Chinese fighting the Germans in the Ardennes?)

Everyones got Ideas of how and what should be done and thats great! (many good suggestions can be found)…

This is more just about The Devs presenting a vision of what they want to do, what they intend to do and that a plan for the long game exists.

Still got big ideas/plans? or fading out?

Yes I understand that and very much hope the devs can deliver.

I asked somewhat similarly before if the devs could have some way of responding to forum posts.

Like all the suggestions for separate UK-Commonwealth and Italy trees.
If the devs could like thumbs up or thumbs down to say yes this is on the table or no we will never consider that so stop posting about it.

(thats just an example)

Maps and content too like have a pool of suggestions from players and say yep guys we’ve added maps XYZ to a list of potentials while maps HIJ we will never do for these reasons.

I’ll say it again, I don’t think we should leave WW2 for a long time if not never

There are still so so many battles, weapons, and vehicles to add

We still have so much content for a looooong time

sure, but again thats something “you” want (perhaps even me). This is about what is it the “developers” want to achieve. Where they would like to take Enlisted, and making it known.

Then we can temper our expectations and suggestions better.

Wouldnt you like to know if what you want aligns even slightly with where they want to take it? Can save you alot of time, effort and trouble.

Keep AK-47 out of enlisted WW2 or whatever you call it. It’s not balance it’s feel, 47’s are cold war and thus not WW2. Also what would be on the other side M14 a garand with delusions of adequacy. Second factions what Warsaw and NATO in that case just separate it. While Korean war tech is close nothing else is. A new battlefield and factions. No AK-47 in Berlin, no Nazis with M14’s just keep WW2 with WW2.

As I posted here already

I believe enlisted should make costum game the main attraction by adding a lot of QoL stuff some of them as example are listed in my suggestion, and keeping the normal matching as faction free for all quick match

In this way to give the ability to players to both having a full arcade experience and a full semi historical one, giving developer the ability to add more faction and stuff without worrying of splitting the playerbase, and giving people more Freedom to play together as they want without compromise

Ive changed the wording to be more clear (my mistake), the questions are directed at the “devs

as if they’ll ever answer…

but may i interest in a answer that would benefit everyone.

*Mod Support with custom content…

how enlisted would be right about now…

oh. and #JusticeForBazsi37
banning the one guy on the english side who actually understood something about it is not great nor smart.
considering that the only helper who knew about mods editor stuff is MIA

Developers of products (and services) don’t build products for themselves based on their likes and dislikes—it’s based on the wants and needs of their target market. That’s basic marketing 101. Why would I buy something that I don’t like just because the developer likes it. That makes no sense!

If the developers really want to make this game take off, they need to listen to their player base—their entire player base, not just a select few. Then, implement the best ideas that people can serve up. Not everyone is going to get what they want, but a lot of improvements to this game can still be made.

… welcome to the forum i’m afraid…

" back in our days, it used to be different ".

Side note. all honesty, i was about to make a list.
but after the update, eh, it made it more clear.

to which, a miracle will have to happen.
but we are not keen on those.
never say never i suppose.

All part of the question I’m asking isn’t it. Who is the Target market?? Because its not the same as 4 years ago.

Thats part of the plan and the questions I’m asking. There is always a plan, Even if it is to shotgun content and milk who they can for as long as the can,

Or maybe the idea is to build the long-lasting Fabled War thunder Infantry, or perhaps something else entirely…Who knows at the moment. There are bits of everything scattered all through the game.

The player base is split with what they want. Arcade, Historic, Long Matches, large scale, Short matches, Infantry focus, vehicle focus, PVE, Skill base MM, no MM… the list goes on

Id argue that they are listening to a broad spectrum, because there’s a bit of everything

If that means planes are actually flying fast, sounds based to me

Well, somewhere deep down you are still waiting for it. You are still here :stuck_out_tongue:

i think it’s more stockholm syndrome and cost sunk fallacy at this point.

but beside that, i kinda owe to devenddar all of the modding knowledge that i know.
and also bazsi.

so it would be kinda of a shame to let that all go to waste.

I don’t think target audience has changed significantly. The game is obviously primarily targeted at people who are interested in WW2.

Of course then each individual in this audience would see their perfect WW2 game differently.
Some people are into prototypes for example, some people can’t stand them. Some people are interested in competitive gaming, some people think that sweats are ruining online gaming.

Well, and developers are just trying to make compromises to draw as many people as possible from this group of ww2 fans to their game.

But that’s only my perspective.

A question I would appreciate being answered:

  • Why are the developers of Enlisted such an outlier among game devs when it comes to meeting self-imposed deadlines?

No other game I can think of comes close to the sheer consistency of DF failing to release content on time, to the point that it became a community meme years ago that every battlepass would be delayed by at least a week, as is tradition.

I guess as followup questions,

  • Why has this pattern of behavior never improved?

  • Are there any plans to improve it?

Not that it matters, but for the first time in nearly 5 years I won’t be renewing my premium account when it expires, as I see no reason to. If I had some idea of what the devs plans were for the near future, or that they even had plans stretching beyond next week, I would continue to support Enlisted. The lack of any clear direction or leadership makes me wary of continuing to fund this project, to put it bluntly.
