The future of engineer MG's CONCLUSION

Ok cool

Let’s make a conclusion

add shield for Maxim with limited FOV

BUT

add more options, adjustments and flexibility to lafette MG-34

By doing this, I don’t think any side will overperform because Maxim can’t be placed on windows and requires placing on ground while MG-34 will have more firepower

Well, technically we could also just build 2 sandbag walls around the mg and leave only the small gap between them for the mg to fire, without needing to actually “upgrade” the gun itself.

That’s why I like this idea:

Because I can just place it on the floor and cover myself with a castle of sandbag walls inside a building.
They have yet to witness my final form.

In my opinion it’s much work for small benefit.
You have to build MG nest and 2 sandbags (including problems with positioning) instead of just MG that needs to be hit more to add sandbags. And if you want you can always not upgrade it and build separate sandbags.
Like here for example.

Notice that there is a gap for MG while sides of sandbag wall are still high. You can’t adjust regular sandbags like this.
Also you have to place sandbags at some distance from MG because of footprint, while in my idea you can basically have MG barrel on top of sandbags.

That starts to make it better than the shielded Maxim, since it would have both versatility and cover (which offers more and better cover), whereas the Maxim has limited versatility, only the shield (which only protects from pistol calibers) and limited fov/fire area.

Same goes for maxim. I see no reason why it couldn’t have sandbags.

I do like the idea, however, I have three issues with it.

Firstly, the mg takes a very long time to build compared to sandbag walls. Upgrading it to add protection might take a longer time than it takes to build normal sandbag walls.
If the upgrades and the regular sandbag walls took the same time to build then I’d be okay with it.

Secondly, if the MG height is adjustable on the tripod then its protection upgrade cannot possibly account for that. It won’t get taller if you raise the mg and it won’t get shorter if you lower it, it will always be fixed.
And if the size is not adjustable while built and only before building it, then that means the devs need to make 3 potential models just for 1 gun.

Lastly and most importantly, the game cannot account for where this extra protection will be placed when the non-protected MG is built. For example, if you want to build a defenseless MG hugging a wall, you could, but if you then want to add protection to it, there would be no space, and will probably glitch through the walls since it might still allow you to do it.
The code would have to be too complex in order to account for whether or not there’s space in any given corner to build the protection.

They could prevent this by increasing the defenseless version of the MG’s “virtual size” so that even when the upgrades are given it could not glitch through, but that would take away from the versatility that could be accomplished by just being able to build it wherever.

I think sandbags should stay as a separate building but give it height adjustment so players can choose how tall their wall should be

I agree. It adds too many problems, so its better to leave it for later IF the devs really want to add that

It would take as much time as building one sb wall.

That’s the case. But only 2 models as AA mount wouldn’t have sb. It’s not meant to fight infantry (although I have some pictures of AA mount firing horizontally)

I guess spliting sb into 3 parts would do the trick. One part is central, it’s alvays available to built, other two are sides and can be built only when there is no significant obstacle (simmilar to normal building colision detection). This partition is only for model, you would still build it like one piece.
And why would you even want sb in building? You have walls, parapets etc.

They would still be separate building. I just want to make covering MG easier as placing building may be awkward sometimes. Especially if you want to basically place one building into another.

Why don’t they just add different versions you can select from? Low sand bags, high, tripod etc to include shielded and not shielded “upgrades”. Germans can start with an MG34 and upgrade to an MG42 (maybe the engineer 2 class gets better version)

That’s completely and utterly noob-unfriendly

And that’s exactly what we need

Having a second engineer class with better stuff? How is that un noob friendly? That would make them different and have a purpose

so when players unlock engineer II they’ll have no reason to play engineer I

Why not give engineer I two MG-34’s and give engineer II only one MG-42?

That’s the point of unlocking them lmao why even have a second engineer class at all if 1 does it all and by the time you reached engineer 2 you’ve longggg maxed engineer 1. Adding a different set of sandbags would be easier to fit the area

Update, I’m closing the poll today in the evening so vote fast
The future of engineer MG's CONCLUSION

Problem is that you have more and more things engineer can build. So you have to make new inventory management for blueprints (somebody suggested it) or you end up with list of every possible entrenchment that takes whole screen.

Sure I dont see why they cant pick in the load outscreen what they can and cant build. Dont make it an in game selection make it like a weapons inventory. 1 mg, 1 type of barbed wire and such. We unlock better weapons why not class specific gear and equipment

How exactly do you expect a game to grow if it just completely cock-blocks newbies through terrible progression systems?
