The radio operator can request an artillery strike every 30 seconds. In my opinion you should only be able to do this again after 3 minutes, better after 5 minutes. At the moment, the artillery is absolutely annoying. It definitely doesn’t look very balanced.
5 would be too long for sure. It isnt THAT effective. Planes take maybe a minute to return and they are far more devastating but can be shot down. It’s an odd thing to balance though…
It can be done that fast only when using proper radio squad. Radiomen in other squads have much longer cooldown for that.
And radio squad needs that upgrade and possibility to call artillery more often than other squads or it will loose any purpose to have them in your setup. That squad has only 5 soldiers in it, so it is objectively weaker than others. So even if I can agree that upgrade could be nerfed to have 45 seconds or 1 minute cooldown then anything more would make radio squad pointless.
Right now you call for an artillery strike, walk a few steps and call the next one. The radio operator can only play with artillery strikes without going into battle himself. And it is not true that the artillery strikes are not very effective. The radio crew is also not defenseless during the cooldown. After all, like everyone else, they are armed.
If the cooldown of the artillery strikes is longer, you have to do more with your squad than just sit in the back and call out one strike after another.
That is why making this cooldown 1 minute will be enough. Right now most players spam artillery because they are on that particular level in campaign. After more players move to the higher levels spam will become smaller because most will leave radio squad behind in exchange for machineguns, mortars etc.
Radio crew is not defenceless, but much with 5 men only in a squad it is weaker than others in eye to eye combat.
They are not effective enough to limit to 5 minutes. Air strikes are far deadlier and you have no advanced warning like there is on the map. 1 minute would be the best balance
3-4 minute cooldown basically renders them useless right now. Arty guys are useless, only thing is Arty squad. The arty squad takes forever to unlock, on any tree, takes serious grind to upgrade, needs the upgrade, is pretty limited, etc.
So I don’t know. Nerfing timer more than 30 seconds would make that squad useless as well, most likely. Arty can be avoided, and easily spotted - by red freaking circles on map lol so I don;t know. Maybe wait, until all the noobs learn up, and learn what arty does. In CBT, Arty was damn near useless. Only difference now is a better timer.
So maybe just wait? For noobs to level up. Then see, if it balances. D-Day map for example will balance out - once noobs learn to assault the map.
Also, it shines only on limited maps - like assaults. Conquests its pretty useless, or limited. But I do get obsence scores with it, but mostly because of noob crowd. Snipers get mad scores too.
Also, its really fun squad, and I would hate to lose that. It feels like being a real squad commander, with limited arty support at your disposal. Like all real world squad commanders would. Its fun squad, dont nerf it.
Artillery is far from being OP - it usually takes me 3-4 games to get the 10 artillery kills achievement even using the Arty squad - very rarely I’ll catch a squad and kill 4 or 5 at once.
And when I’m doing that I’m not fielding assaulters or LMG squad or even riflemen who will get more kills faster!
It’s more so that they don’t sit in the rear, trying to cross map spot. If you want to take the extra 30 seconds to do nothing fine but as of now by the time the first strike ends your 10 seconds from the second.
Yes - and even then they are still usually less useful that a proper combat squad IMO.
right now the ONLY time I ever take them is when I have an artillery task to do that I can’t swap - the occasional 5-6-7 kill doesn’t take away that they really are that useless.

Radioman are a perferct counter to twats that sit with their snipers at the edge of the map.
Just because you get killed by the arty does not mean it’s op. Check the map, there is a huge circle telling you where it will strike. I mean the best arty I have had gave me 8 kills. The 110 circling the map every 1 minute gets 10 kills on average.
I main artillery and there hasn’t been a single match where I just sit at the edge since it is a - boring, b - unproductive. I can do more damage in a squad of 5 rifleman than a squad of radio.
Maybe giving it 45 second cooldown would be fine. Beyond that and this squad will join the flamethrower squad in the trashcan.
