Suppression and slowing the game down

I really believe this game should have a more intensive suppression mechanic. Many of the features of this game fall into a sim category. While I recognize it is clearly not a sim, I think a bit of a lean in that direction would be positive for the game overall. In general the game feels too fast. TOO arcade. I think many many people share this opinion as most of the people leaving the game are leaving for games that are in fact slower paced. Slowing the pacing of this game would make a lot of it’s nuances shine like leaning, bipod use, marking targets, mortars, artillery, tanks with simulated parts, aircraft, construction including AT batteries and AAA and the use of sandbags and fortifications. In general you are sitting on a gold mine here, but your gunplay and movement is too fast and too arcadey. I really love the game, I have a lot of fun, but frequently the rounds just end too quickly and the tactics involved are spamming and usually repetitive. I know that there is a tendency for most of what is said here to be ignored, but I can’t help but want to try. Please consider adding a more meaningful suppression mechanic, pinning infantry in their trenches from time to time and please consider slowing down things like movement speed and potentially releasing larger maps or adding more objectives to the current ones. This game is teetering on amazing and with a few loving touches you could grab a lot of the currently disenfranchised hell let loose players. Discussion on this topic would be very positive imo, as this topic reaching the eyes of a dev could be instrumental.

Upon reflection: This seems perfect for a simulator mode or realistic mode, similarly to what war thunder has. I think it actually fits the game perfectly to have this mode, though I realize it splits the population. I think it would be worth it to do this, realistic is far more popular in war thunder and I think it would be here too.

Another note about suppression: Without suppression, all firing becomes accurate long range pixel hunting or point blank sub machine gun spam. The role of the MG is basically non-existent. Tanks can not pelt a building and provide a sense of oppression and MG infantry can not hold a position down, they just have a rifle that shoots really fast basically. The more I think about this, the more I realize how much the lack of suppression is invading the game like a plague. As I dive into this topic I have realized the game itself is feeling less fun to me seeing this glaring issue. I always knew something was off about the experience and this is it, through and through. There is another post about separating the game in to historical and arcade battles and I think this is a great idea. Please moderators, if you see this, pass it to the devs asap.

Laughs aside, it has nothing to do with my reaction time. This is just a matter of taste. More realistic shooters are very popular these days and enlisted checks so many boxes to be one of these, but is hampered by lightning speed gunplay and movement.

Although im up for slowing the game down, i like they way it handles and moves now.

Id only be slowing it down via game mode adjustments, not messing with gunplay or movement (unless you wanna remove crappy dispersion, wouldnt be sad to see that go). Confrontation slows it down pretty well just by locking the point for a bit of time, knowing where the next cap is, and allowing tug of war

And there is no “I don’t care after all, I have infinite respawn” from one side. There is no boring sitting on defender side because the attacker side is an idiot and incompetent. If one of the teams sucks, they push it back anyway and you can move on. And if neither team is completely stupid, you can have very good battles.
I think confrontation is the best game mode.

I think for balance purposes the movement does need adjustment.

Otherwise, slowing down gameplay, giving defenders a chance to fortify and such I completely agree with.

The other major things I think needs to be adjusted are the explosive packs that need to be removed, as they make like 3 or 4 different unique things completely obsolete.
The other being fortifications being able to be broken down without any type of special equipment, tool, or character.

  • It takes an ENGINEER to build them, and it takes both time and resources to build them. So why are run of the mill infantry allowed to tear it down without even the use of TNT?

Making defenses actually feel more immersive on BOTH sides of it (both as the defenders and as the attackers storming the fortifications) is extremely high on my list.

confrontation would be good if were more cap points to take simultaneously
like Heroes and generals

the back and forth thing is cancer

I really think giving defenders time to build up and defend is absolutely necessary. Imagine if we could actually get AT guns up, large fortifications and MGs. The game would be much better imo. I truly believe suppression alone could create a LOT of room in the game for these things. Suppressing positions should make the enemy scared to pop out, giving your team more time.

I think as far as “suppression” goes, it should have more effect than just “make them scared to pop out”. One of my favorite games of all time Battlefield 4 had an excellent suppression mechanic where it would blur their vision a bit.
Perhaps something similar here? Other options could include decreasing the stability of their weapon or decreasing stamina while suffering from suppression.
Just something to think about.

I’m all for slowing down the game, but I feel a suppression mechanic isn’t the way. Maybe it should work only on bots and not players. Any normal player will be mentally affected, if there is hot lead flying everywhere around them and they will stay in cover, if possible. It would be really frustrating, if there were a game mechanic, that artificially hampers my ability to move and act the way I want. But since bots have no survival instinct, I wouldn’t mind, if it worked on them.

You say this, but I have seen many instances of players walking directly into the line of machinegun fire. Repeatedly. Not trying to really avoid it. Not attempting to flank, nor use smoke to break line of sight, or anything. They keep coming from the exact same location, hoping they make it to where they want to go.
At least with a visual suppression mechanic (like bf4) it would double as a warning to NOT go that way.

People must be allowed to play badly. Some just lack awareness of their surroundings, some just don’t give a fuck and there is no helping those people. They’re not going to flank, just because they have blurry vision or something. They will charge anyway. Let them get their just deserts for playing bad and that’s that.

But I don’t want to sit in a trench and lose stamina or be dizzy or move slower or whatever, just because there are bullets whizzing overhead. Basically I am punished for playing properly.

I don’t think it is a good idea. In general there is more arcade player than sim player. I don’t think it is worth it to sacrifice arcade player to please sim player.

And potentially losing current player base because not everyone like these change that making Enlisted to a very different game.

Well, I think the movement speed is fine and doesn’t need “any” adjustment to it. Most players have different tastes in gameplay, either fast-paced or slow-paced gameplay. So, it would be a great idea if some maps, like D-Day, have slower paced than others, which will include different immersions. (However, there will be some cases where the player will desert the battlefield just because they don’t like the map.)

Truthfully I want something more like what squad just implemented or at least something like hell let loose.

The game is densely packed with sim features already. If they find enlisted fun, it’s probably because of many of these unique sim-like features as that is the primary offering the game has. Vehicle simulation and advanced infantry movement and features like weapon resting.

Bruh, no. This game doesn’t even look like sim. It is way more arcade then hell let loose and post scriptum. Also, there is a lot of arcade feature in this game. I can also say people find enlisted fun, it’s probably because of many of these arcade feature like close and dense battle, automatic spamming in WW2, soldier having superhuman perk and can fire at rifle and mg on the move.

BFV have this, but it is an arcade game lol.

Quite sure this is exactly only category in which this game in its current state can be.

I think it’s about time the Germans get 100 round or 150 round MG we don’t need Paratrooper weapons we don’t need marksman weapons we need MG lay down suppressive fire to keep people from sticking their heads out or pushing so people are more mindful unless they want to get mowed down
